Hole Poll: Who do you THINK the Gophers will hire as its next football coach?

count me as one who voted for a hire of someone that we haven't heard at all. maturi pulled the rabbit out of the hat with tubby and he'll do it again. he's had the time, we have the resources and facilities.

I'd be happy with all the names on the list, but prefer Hoke.

Prepare yourselves...Randy Edsall has one game left next week...after that he will interview and be hired as the next Gopher football coach...IMO.

Whoever it is, they need to hurry up, with Miami and West Virginia (rumored) to have opened up in the last 18 hours. As far as Horton goes, I love the win yesterday, but this is not Bill Stewart beating Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Sid needs to take a deep breath.

Hoke is strong rumor to take the Miami job. They want somebody who can bring the passing game back to the offense.

Edsall has the most experience

If he wins next week, he'll be in a BCS bowl - way ahead of Hoke in that regard. Hoke has one good year in bigtime football - and that's in a weaker conference. Still, even Edsall is a risk - why can't we get a Harbaugh or a Patterson?

Harbaugh is NFL material if he is hired away from Stanford. The man is that good.
Hoke took Ball state from the sewer to the atmosphere and then was hired away by San Diego.

Now it is our turn to hire him away from San Diego. Winners win. That is all you need to know.

You do not want to hire a coach who has blow out losses. Conn's record does not impress me.

I think you mean bad losses, two of the three are not blowouts in my book.

All bad choices -- none are what I would call an established, program-building, big-time coach. This is the Big Ten. These guys will not suffice.

I for one just want this over. I will support whoever we hire. Everyone has an opinion on who they want which is great, but when the smoke clears there will be a choice that not everyone wants. Very few of us if any have talked to any of these candidates and I think we should not be we judging these people on heresay and records. Yes, records do count but personality and communication skills are important as the head coach is not only a teacher of football but must deal with the public and sorry to say the media. We are all want a coach with great offense and defense skills, super special teams, a great recruiter, but in reality it is awfully tough if not impossible to get that person. People like Edsell, Hoke, Mullen, Golden and Calhoun are all solid coaches who I believe would do a great job here, but someone always doesn't like the way they tie their shoes.

Also if you were a candidate and came across this board and read some of these comments why would you want to come here?

I agree Magpie i would be in favor of keeping Horton here until Maturi is gone Maturi is apt to screw up again anyway
