Hold out!! Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava did not attend Tennessee spring practice today. He’s been in conversations with Tennessee about a new contract.

Not an adult locker room.

So you're saying if an NFL player holds out for money then gets signed he will lose respect from the players?

No, they know it's business and the college players today also know it's business.
On the one hand, I wanted to disagree with you, but maybe it's just gonna take time for me to get used to this new landscape.

On the other hand, I think in the NFL it's supported more because the other players think the person deserves it, such as a player on the 5 year rookie contract who's going to Pro Bowls in his first few years. Everyone will support him getting a new deal because they see he's earned it. Plus a lot of the other players are already millionaires themselves and have gotten their payday.

Not sure too many players on the Vols team are gonna think this QB deserved to hold out for a $1.6M raise, nor are many of them already set for life financially.

My $0.02.

Everyone has a right to negotiate a better deal for themselves. The problem is we are indoctrinated by stupid people to think that is somehow rude, crude and unworthy of us. Somehow, negotiation is only for the best human beings. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are all very capable to negotiate a better deal. You just have to be prepared to walk away entirely as in leaving the business. The word "quit" is a word to shame you for leaving. There is no shame in leaving. There are only the priests of the corporate gods who want to claim it is shameful to leave. They are bad people or worse--idiots.

The big difference is when a guy holds out in the NFL it is almost always because they are a star player getting way less then the going rate for similar players at their position and ability level.

The bigger issue is that if they want to run college sports like pro sports they need to have the rules and structure that the pro leagues have.

In the end, the kid thinks he is worth 4 million and at least so far teams seem to disagree.

My feelings.....I hope he either doesn't get picked up (very unlikely), or gets picked up in a very lesser situation for less than what he already had (most likely). JMO

Zero chance he won't get picked up by someone (UNC was rumored at one point). But definitely looks like he won't get anything close to what he tried to squeeze Tennessee for. That said, he probably still gets 7 figures from somewhere so I'm sure he won't care about the reputation hit he has taken from the hold out.

Agree. Also very likely he doesn't get what he already had in hand. And at a lesser situation as far as tv exposure, etc. Or, maybe just me hoping so.

Some buzz is UCLA might be the landing spot for a lot less, and he’d compete with a transfer from App st.

Agreed. I think the Gophers have more of a chance to compete now than they did when NIL was first rolled out and much more so before NIL was allowed in the first place.

I know that’s not everything but it does make me see how the prior longstanding system in place hurt the gophers more - there was never a chance they’d catch Ohio State and now we know their resource base is tilted a bit more toward the “have’s” than the “have nots” with rev share. The fact that we can openly fund raise for additional NIL I think benefits us longterm as well as there was no chance our athletic department would tolerate under the table payments so, even though we’re still treading water there, we’re afloat and can see shore.
B1G has to be the biggest beneficiary of the portal and NIL, right? A lot of money and mostly poor recruiting footprints. We were already "paying" kids to come here from the southeast with scholarships. Now, we can pay them a heck of a lot more!

Steer clear UCLA! Not like UCLA is making the CFP though.

Hold up....so he is already threatening to sit out of playoff games for his new school if he doesn't get the money he thinks he deserves?.....Holy crap.....if I was a coach I would want nothing to do with a kid like this....I don't care if he is talented.

So glad that Fleck would never go after a guy like this....let him be someone else's problem.

edit - This may just be a clickbait twitter post and not real....but this kid is still a cancer I wouldn't want on my team and in my locker room.

Has to be satire or malevolent clickbait. No player or his father could be so stupid as to make such a silly, pointless, selfish and dispiriting demand upon his brand new team--one very unlikely to get even a whiff of CFP play.

Interesting approach threatening a team that is interested in giving you a scholarship and money. UCLA in the college playoff just because they add him. LMAO. That kid sure thinks highly of himself. Even if he is the next big thing he's not taking that team to the playoff alone. They need a ton more.
