Per U of MN communications. Congratulations, Blake:
Hoffarber a Candidate for Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award
Senior Blake Hoffarber (Minnetonka, Minn.) is one of 30 NCAA Division I basketball student-athletes as a candidate for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in men’s basketball.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Sportscaster Dick Enberg, honorary chair of the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, first conceived the idea of an award for seniors in 2001 in response to the growing trend of men's basketball players leaving school early for the NBA. The award program has expanded from men's and women's basketball to include 10 NCAA Division I sports. The award is sponsored by Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, and is managed by Premier Sports Management.
Hoffarber, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten performer and finance major in the prestigious Carlson School of Management, finished his junior season as the team’s second-leading scorer with a career-high 10.0 points per game while also adding a career-high 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
He led the team in minutes played and set a Gopher single-season record for three-point field goals made with 85, including a school record eight treys against Northern Illinois on Dec. 15. Hoffarber led the country in three-point shooting for much of the season and finished third with a percentage of .467 (85-182).
One of the most accurate shooters in Gopher history, Hoffarber enters his senior campaign with a career three-point field-goal percentage of .418 (200-478), the fourth highest all-time in Gold Country. His 200 career three-pointers are already the most in school history.
The Gophers open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. against Wofford at Williams Arena and play Siena on Monday, Nov. 15 at 8:00 p.m., also at Williams Arena, before traveling to San Juan, Puerto Rico to take part in the Puerto-Rico Tip-Off Nov. 18-21. Minnesota opens against Western Kentucky in San Juan.
2010-11 season, Pick Your Packs, and non-conference single-game tickets are on sale now. Single-game tickets for the Gophers’ Big Ten Conference schedule go on sale Wednesday, November 17.
