I get it.

PJ doesn't talk about players if they're in the portal even ... I'm sure if we had a situation like that he wouldn't comment.

Coach is there for the guys on the team, talk about the program, the game. Sacrificing time from all that to talk about some assholes that they kicked off the team ... makes no sense.

Not to mention that if the case is active he has probably been told not to make any public comments about it.

If I don't play around was a press conference.

This.

I agree, opticially this looks terrible. My guess is PSU's legal team instructed Franklin not to say anything.

This is a classic chicken shit move by the reporters involved and PSU's legal team.

Franklin should have been given a script to say something like "As noted in yesterday's press release, we are aware of the allegations. This is an active investigation into what happened involving people no longer involved with our program. It would be inappropriate for us to comment on this matter except to assist in any law enforcement inquiry we receive.

Scooter, anything you want to add?

But we live in the age of outrage, so no matter what Franklin says or does, he's screwed, thus the legal team telling him to walk away from the podium and let Scooter handle the quesiton.

I posted because he reintroduces himself 3 times and says "Hey guys". His AD looks really bad for not having him prepared. Just awkward.

Agreed.

It's a really emotionally charged crime, Franklin doesn't really KNOW what happened ... almost no comment would appropriately sum things up.

Start answering questions and the misquotes and out of context mess can get BRUTAL.

If I were a coach and I had to do something other than stick with the public prepared statement I'd be all:

"Guys what can anyone say about a crime like that? What is sufficient to say? I don't know man. Words don't cover how I feel and that's all I can think of."

I think his AD did have him prepared. He told him "if a question comes up about this stuff, don't say anything, just let me handle it." And that's what Franklin did. He just forgot to add "and don't be a dick about it." I guess you can blame the AD for that, but he shouldn't really have to tell Franklin that it's a serious matter.

zero problem with what Franklin did. As reporters, grow up. Shocker that now ESPN runs the article titled "Franklin refuses to comment on..." given they have become a clickbait enterprise.

I think many have issues with the highest paid individual and leader of the program needs to stay silent. People in this thread have shown ways how this could have been better handled.

Fleck would say, I don't talk about players to the media that are no longer with the program or school. Simple as that.

The reporters were trying to make a point with their behavior and so was Franklin. A perfect back and forth.
