Hetherman to Rutgers??? Say it ain't so....

Thought I heard that staff salary pool increase was something that he was adamant about being included in the deal.
They say the same thing every time PJ signs an extension. Not saying it isn't true, but PJ is not the problem here.

Maybe, but at 8 mil a year after one year, not sure it’s coming out of his own pocket.

You just typed complete nonsense. It's wrong in more ways than I could ever have imagined a response being wrong.
Prior Art! :ROFLMAO:

Regarding Mr. Royston's father, it was in reference to an era on this board. Nothing to do with Elder Mr. Royston directly.

I am not going to go on about this on the Football board. Any further off topic chatter should be started in a new thread in the cyber sandbox.

Cheers!

I'm pulling for PJ to try and hire Nick Rallis as his replacement if Hetherman bolts to Rutgers.
would be great but think that'd be a big step back from where he's at in NFL, close enough to a playcalling role there

I've seen that talked about with 1 hire in the history of this board and that was with Ben Johnson.

Literally no one would argue that hiring Winston would be a DEI hire. Literally no one thought it was a DEI hire when Winston was hired as a DL coach.

We get it, you feel stupid that people pointed to the Ben Johnson hire and made the rationale realization that he was hired for 1 reason and you have egg on your face over all of that.

That does not mean anything thinks every minority person hired is a DEI hire and it's insulting to deserving candidates that you would even bring it up.
But there in lies the problem with DEI. Impossible to have policies like that in place but then say race or ethnicity had nothing to do with any particular hire. That is the problem with basing employment decisions on social factors. It takes people that don’t believe in logic or truth to buy into that. Less and less people are buying that these days.

I would say I would be happy with a Winston getting a chance as the D coordinator. I think he could be very comparable to Herherman.

I don't have "SMOKE" I have "VAPE" and my insider info says that all key assistants will be getting significant raises this year. Announcements coming soon.

I disagree only because, who knows? Hetherman had experience as a DC, even though it was at lower level. You knew how he ran defenses and what he liked to to and he was very successful at lower level.

Winston might be great, but making him DC is a huge leap in faith, similar to hiring Johnson (and I'm not talking or even inferring DEI).

Sure hope you're right.

As the DC for the Cardinals, he already has a play calling role there.

I’ll give you that. I would prefer Herherman for the comfort factor.

Prior Art? Is that a new phrase you learned that you're just yelling out now? If you're trying to shoehorn it into this convo, again, that doesn't mean what you think it does.

As far as Mr. Royston? What does that era have to do with DEI hires? Did you think Jerry Kill or Tim Brewster was a DEI hire? Those were the guys at the time. How does Mr. Royston have anything to do with DEI hires? Again, is it because he's black? Weird and racist again.

As far as the bold, it's a schizophrenic thing to type for someone that brought it up of nowhere. You started this chatter. No one, literally no one, except for you was talking about this issue until you brought it up. No one.

The first part of your post is just puking word salad that somewhere in your brain makes some sort of connection to this discussion and the second part of your post is somehow crazier than the first.

Ess Tee Pee is the real race baiter.

Promoting Winston is no where near the leap of faith hiring Ben Johnson was in my opinion

This. Is no comparison. I do like the lower level experience, but hiring him to be head coach next year is the equivalent of hiring Ben Johnson. No head coaching experience at this level is the correct comparison. Hiring him as a D-Coordinator is not the same. PJ has already praised his coaching ability and said he will be a head coach some day, but it will be at Kent State or something similar first. That should be the process. Hiring Ben was a huge mistake. We should not be hiring anyone with no head coach experience as a head coach. They should cut their teeth on the lower level first.

It would be a massive indictment against the U’s investment in athletics if we couldn’t stop Rutgers from taking Heathermen (assuming Fleck would rather keep him than use the extra $850k elsewhere).

I mean we already had an offensive coordinator and a co-defensive coordinator go there, so i don't see this as being much different.

Real smoke? I see conjecture and a link to his own article talking about the connection with Rutgers. Sure, it could happen, but this isn't smoke.

Can you claim something a rumor when you are the one writing the rumor?
Waiting to hear something from Ryan Burns.

Have to decide if they want to keep him and how bad, and how comfortable they are in giving someone else a shot. Making 850K to making 1.25M or whatever is a large difference, can't blame an assistant coach for going after the money, they have no where near the guarantees a HC does. If PJ really wants him to stay he's going to need to pay up.

As per 60's Guys article:

The former Rutgers linebackers coach, who worked under Harasymiak for two seasons in Piscataway, is the strongest candidate who makes the most sense. But Minnesota coach PJ Fleck has learned from the past and made it harder for Rutgers to poach one of his top lieutenants.

According to 247Sports, Hetherman’s contract includes a clause that if he “terminates the contract to accept a coaching position at another Big Ten institution (except for a head coaching position), you will be required to pay a termination fee equal to 100% of the remaining salary you would have earned if you had remained employed through the full term of employment.”

Walters would make a lot of sense for the Rutgers DC spot too.
very very true. He's a great coach and seems like he'd be a great recruiter. Guess question as to if Fleck and Schiano would view it as an issue he was recent HC/has different approach but he can coach defense

If he leaves for Rutgers then PJ deserves a kick in the nuts for all this Rutgers coaching merry go round.
