Hawes, Georgia WR Commits

More from Burns. #Gophers offered @_JH14_'s after seeing him at a satellite camp down in Georgia in June. #Gophers made him a top priority after that.

Not much of an offer sheet but perhaps the proverbial diamond in the rough.

Great news! Welcome aboard!

Yes welcome aboard! Lots of opportunities as the offense will open up in the years to come.

Not a game changer.More of a route runner. Low 3 star rating from 247 ( .081) If he is a top priority the coaches must see something in the young man. His film to me seems pretty mundane. Purdue his only major offer. Another "trust the coaches"

Said he might be a DB in the GI article. Per Sawvel his choice and he could go either way depending on where he plays his Sr. season. Pretty ballsy to claim 4.32; no tomatoes please...

That might be one of the stranger Hudl videos I've ever seen. About what, 15 actual game plays, some practice footage, and some punting and kicking. Obviously if the coaches offered him after watching him at camp he must have some physical skills. We're not his only offer.

I found this in a 247 article: http://247sports.com/Article/Sound-Mind-Sound-Body-Atlanta-Top-Performers-2016-45647553

3. The top receiver in 1-on-1s was Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek’s Javan Hawes who is a smooth route runner that can separate from defenders. Slight in build and developing ball skills probably makes Hawes a mid-major recruit but he can definitely be a difference maker at that level.

His film is less than awe-inspiring, but we offered immediately after SMSB so the coaches must have been pretty impressed.

Camp offer. That seals the deal. He is a good one.

Looks like a possession guy

Football is different then Basketball recruiting. Players as we all know still get offers once they verbal, I think Bobby Bowden once said verbal's just let him know who his competition was. Players spike up the rankings all the time as seniors and get more offers leading up to signing day. Still a long way out until signing day. I trust this staff, if the class of 2012 is any indication they're good at identifying talent

We are not Florida State and Clayes sure isn't Booby Bowden.
They are good at finding DB and LB's.
Not so good with WR's.

Not saying we are or he is, as we learned last year with certain recruits it's how the game is played, we had guys flip on us to schools like UCF and Maryland. Kill flipped recruits as well, Kamal martin was gong to go to Eastern Michigan before we swooped in. Players get offers well into their senior season's all the time in football, the culture is different.

That is because we focused on defense when Kill got here and what didn't help was Andre McDonald turning out to be cokehead. Imagine if he would have lived up to his potential.

If we can't flip every single kid with an Eastern Michigan offer, we should shut down the program.

Would this be considered "recruiting a receiver that can be bulked up" or still "recruiting athletes that can (hopefully) be taught to catch the ball?"

We haven't been able to do much of the former and I'm increasingly skeptical with the latter. Good speed and route running and getting separation still amount to zero yards if the ball is dropped (this is not an invitation to comment on Mitch's throwing abilities or sometimes lack thereof). We suffer a lot of drops no matter the QB.

Like BeaverG noted we're not FSU, so I understand the boat we're in. Hoping this kid might represent a little change. We could use another Decker or two.

Regardless, I like the continued Georgia connection. A lot of good football players coming up every year.

Mitch will throw exactly zero passes to this receiver.
