I suppose it looks bleak from a distance, but you have to assume that since we didn't bring in a high end transfer that PJ feels pretty good about Drake as our starter. And the fact that Pyron couldn't crack the top 3 tells you our top 3 must at least be ok.
 


Bleak seems super hyperbolic, there's nothing about Drake that implies we should be concerned aside from his lack of experience, which is the same thing almost every team in the country goes through at least once every five years. You could say our qb depth is bleak, but you could also say that about damn near anyone else.
 




He has 5 more pass attempts than Michigan’s presumptive starter yet they aren’t on the list because 5 Star. I get that having little experience makes it tough to judge a QB but it’s a bit dumb to call it “bleak” just because a guy is an unknown quantity. Seems like the transfer portal era has people convinced that only 5 stars or transfers are acceptable starters.
 





Writer assume we went and got Pyron to be the starter so with him leaving he is then making the assumption that our outlook at the QB position is bad.

Doesn't seem to realize that Lindsay was the likely starter all along and Pyron was just brought in to provide competition and be a backup.

QB is definitely a massive questionmark until Drake proves he can get it done. But as others have said the thing that gives me hope is that they didn't go out and bring in a starting QB. They showed with Brosmer that they were willing to do that if they felt the guy on the roster couldn't get it done.
 


Although Lindsey lacks the snaps he should know the speed of the game. Brosmer had a ton of experience but I believe it took a while for the speed of the game to slow down for him.

Whatever our scheme and balance ends up being, it will have to be a complete offensive team performance that needs to be humming by I-O-W-A.

A new young QB always adds intrigue. AAK got totally destroyed on his first snap as a starter against a MAC defense and he turned out to be an okay QB. Fortunately those days are pretty much long gone.
 

NW, Rutgers, Maryland, Wisconsin, Purdue, Nebraska, and Michigan State are all returning guys that haven’t proven a whole lot. Iowa has a guy coming off surgery and moving up from fcs. Michigan and OSU have unknowns, OSU gets the benefit of the doubt, but does Michigan? Hard to consider things too bleak when the mystery is still there. Now if Lindsey comes out and stinks it up, yeah it’s probably going to be a pretty bleak situation this year.

I might be the only guy on earth that thinks it will be impossible for him to be bleak.
