Root for Texas to steal Chryst.

He seems to be one of a few names that Texas is considering to replace Greg Davis.

I'm curious what some gopherholers' opinions on Chryst are. I was hoping that if Texas went after Chryst they'd go after Bostad too, but I'm reading stuff online that says Addazio from Florida will be the next O-line coach at Texas.

In any event, what are your thoughts on Chryst as a OC? I figured that rival fans would have a good assessment on his capabilities.

I think Paul Chryst is a great offensive coordinator. I am not 100% sure that the fans in Texas would neccesarily have the patience for a Badger-style offense. I know they went for video game type numbers this year, but there will be plenty of games that I could see some Longhorns fans getting annoyed because they've run the ball 30 times and passed 12 times (and are up 17-7). I think it would be a good match simply because Chryst is THAT good of an offensive coordinator, but I am not sure that in the more wide open Big 12 the fans would automatically love his play calling.

Chryst is an extremely good offensive coordinator, but the other thing that might be missed here is that if Texas continues to get 4-star and 5-star guys, those guys are more likely to be heading to the pros sooner. One of the strengths of the Wisconsin program is that they seem to be able to keep their guys around for all 4 (or 5 depending on red-shirting) years, especially the linemen.

If Chryst goes to a program where guys are leaving after their junior years, the consistency levels exhibited by his Wisconsin offenses may be difficult to replicate. That's not a diss on Chryst. He's one of the best in college football. He runs a great base offense and certainly incorporates a lot of wrinkles that run off the strength of the base offense.

I don't hate Wisconsin. They are the best state that we share our Eastern Border with. It is also a nice state to visit, just damn glad I don't live there.

I have not been impressed with Texas o-line play. For a team that gets to hand pick the best from Texas literally every year. they really do not dominate the defensive lines they face. The o-line coach should be as serious a hire as the OC..

does a bear ____ in the woods? Is the pope catholic?

A Nazi too....

I should let this go, and not worry myself with comments like this. But I cannot...

From the Independent:

In1941 Ratzinger was nevertheless forced to join the Hitler Youth because, in that year, the Nazis made membership of the organisation compulsory. He was 14 at the time. However, he quickly won a dispensation on account of his training at the seminary.

Yet two years later, at the age of 16, he was unable to dodge compulsory military service. He was sent to Munich to undergo training as a "flak helper", and became one of the thousands of young men drafted into the army during the closing stages of the war. Soon afterwards, he was dispatched to the fringes of the Bavarian capital to join a unit protecting a BMW factory producing aircraft engines.

Ratzinger insists he never took part in combat or fired a shot, because of a badly infected finger. He was later sent to Hungary where he set tank traps. In early 1944, he suddenly decided to leave his unit, knowing full well that SS units had orders to shoot deserters on sight. He recorded his terror when, after deserting his unit, he was stopped by other soldiers: "Thank God they were the ones who had enough of war and did not want to become murderers," he wrote in his memoirs

Polish and polish are spelled the same because Webster did not know the difference between $hit and Shinola.

This is wildly off topic and I should let THIS go, but I'm curious, what's your point? The article points out that he actually was a member of the Hitler Youth. So I'm pretty sure my previous statement stands.

People who don't know the entire story may assume by your comments that he was a Nazi by choice, and that he believed in what they were doing. Your statement wasn't wrong by any means, just didn't tell the whole story.

It would be the same if I came on here bragging about the fact that I scored 68 points in a b-ball game last night. But I leave out that it was against an 8th grade girls team. ;)

Exactly my point, thanks.

True, which is why I was hoping for Chryst and Bostad. Synergy is needed between the O-line coach and the OC. It's vital.

Texas' O-line should be dominating teams, but a lot of it had to do with scheme IMO. You run a pass-happy dink and dunk offense, your line gets used to dropping back instead of firing off the ball.

Personally, I'd love to see Texas line up and break the will of the defense with a good running game. And I think Texas' best shot at rebounding and becoming a national power in the near future is to get an OC that can utilize Malcolm Brown's talent. Greg Davis was not going to be that guy and his departure was long overdue.

Thanks for the opinions of Chryst. I really appreciate hearing that intense rivals have such respect for him. That's a great sign.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Yeah Chryst is a great O-coordinator.

And it is completely bizarre that Texas has been totally unable to develop run blocking linemen or elite RBs over the last 9 years. No one has ever wasted more elite RB talent than Mack Brown. Nobody.

So it would make sense for Texas to go in a different direction and play a more smash mouth style. I think the fact that Texas always has such a strong D should be reason enough to grab a guy like Chryst and start ramming the ball down people's throats. And power football is such an anomaly in the defense light Big 12 that other conference teams would have issues figuring out how to address that kind of attack.

And, let's be honest, Gopher fans desperately want Chryst to go. If Wisconsin loses both coordinators and their O-line coach in the same year that their entire nucleus graduates...Bielema will likely find himself on the other end of several blowouts next year.

And you can bet the rest of the Big Ten won't have any mercy on that unrepentant fat @$$h*#%

I can't think of anything in the whole world that I hate more than the University of Wisconsin.

Wow, that's really sad. Didn't get accepted or something?

In the poster's defense, it isn't nearly as sad as coming on to your 3-9 rival's message board to stir up crap, let alone how indicative such behavior is of where you're at in your life.

Thanks for stopping by, though.

I don't hate Wisconsin I feel sorry for them. It is a state that is so easy to make fun of. The latest incident being the naked postman near Milwaukee. You just can't make this stuff up.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hate Wiscy? Yah shure

A college buddy (from Black River Falls) and his son visited Vegas and stayed with me and my family last fall. We attended the UNLV - Wisconsin game. Anyway he gave me, the wife and daughter Badger shirts. The girls wear their shirts to annoy me. I do wear mine, but ONLY when picking up dog crap in the backyard, and that is the only shirt I wear when doing that chore. It still doesn't feel right.

If you're not using it as a glove, you're still not doing it right.

No kidding.

Even though Kansas State isn't a main rival of Texas, I still can't bring myself to wear a K-State shirt that was a gift at any time whatsoever. If someone gave me an OU shirt, I wouldn't even use it to pick up my dog's crap. It's just not good enough.

Burn the shirt.

Scuttlebutt online today is that Chryst is very interested but has a couple of stipulations:

1.) A multi-year contract

NO PROBLEM!

2.) He wants to bring two assistants with him.

If Bostad is one, hell yes.

I have no clue who Chryst is tight with. Y'all have any idea who the two he wants to bring with him might be?
