Has There Been Any Update on David Cobb's Injury Status?

Jerry's got a press conference this afternoon. We should hear a little more then, but probably not much.

College sports are very protective of their injury information. There's not a chance that he will tell us the severity of the injury. He's gonna be questionable until game time.

Prepare for a ton of BS. We'll know on Saturday by about 3pm how Cobb's hammy is doing. I have to believe that with the NE game on the line and needing to score or lose, that they would "save" him for next week in the 2nd half. So I'm kind of pessimistic that this a real problem and we'll see him at the bowl game.

Hamstrings are tricky, they attempted to massage it out and ride a bike @ nebraska so it's not like they KNEW he was done for the day. He didn't POP it, he'd be on the ground before the endzone if he did.
He got ice on it quickly and it probably won't be 100% for awhile but I think he plays and maybe has to leave later in the game if it tightens up again.

I for one love Roderick Williams' game. He's bigger and tougher to bring down than Kirkwood, and has a little wiggle. Kirkwood on the other hand should be surgical in his pass blocking and execution of things, possibly even better than Cobb in that aspect.
I'd love to see Streveler get a few plays this week too.

No but we did get this update.

^Probably an NCAA violation

Oh boy. Where did DC27 get that money from?

I sense a 4 year bowl ban that won't be lifted early and us losing 20 scholarships a year over this...

I'm sure he had just finished helping an old lady cross the street...

Great, but did he RUN or LIMP across the street ?

Scoggins: " I then went across the street and asked the homeless man if I could borrow some money. He just glared at me."

Ole: I agree with your assessment. Maybe its wishful thinking, but I think that with the few carries that Kirkwood and Williams have had this season they should be fresh and ready to go in Madison. I hope they perform like a good sub does in a soccer game. Its different in that they will be entering late in the season, rather than late in a game as soccer subs do. I see them providing a spark to the team. I'd also like to see Streveler running the zone read a few times. Go Gophers!

Cobb will be ready, if I am a betting man there is no way you can keep him from playing this game Saturday. Will and strength are strong traits with Cobb, he is a tough son of a gun, you would have to do something serious to keep him off the field this week.

Love it, but Roderick also sounds like a Lord of the Rings/Game of Thrones Knight.
Sir Roderick the Doomnugget?

I have heard the coaches call him freight train. Seems fitting for his running style.

I see in the twitter feed our boy afurry91 said he doesn't think Cobb is worth a 3rd round pick and thinks he gets drafted until 5th round or later. Care to elaborate as to why mr. afurry91? ;)

It's what you do when nobody is watching that really shows your character. Amazing. DC is going to be hard to replace. I don't care how tough he is, having had many hamstring injuries, I just don't think he'll be able to go this week. If he plays, he won't be as effective. I say go with the tandem of Kirkwood & Williams and pound on them.

Cobb is a tough as nails. That being said, cold weather is a killer on a hammy
I think he'll warmup and the coaches will make a kick off decision. I'm hoping for the best.

I agree, except I would lean on Nugget way more. 90/10 split if Cobb doesn't go.

90 plays to 10 plays? Man, that's a lot of plays for our offense. We should win with that!!!

I'm going to be a Debbie downer and state it will be something of a small miracle if Cobb can "Cobb" this weekend. There is always a chance, but his strength and cutting ability probably won't be the same. They probably won't really test him until close to game time. I don't want to see him reinjure it and hurt his draft stock and possibly miss the bowl game.

We're going to have to ride the other guys. I want to see Nugget running strong and angry. He's going to need to have a coming out party. The offensive line is going to need to play out of their minds. this is Mitch's time to be a hero. So much riding on these guys, very excited for the weekend. I won't even get to see the game in real time unless I follow it on the net.

That's what a lot of people think, even on Gopherhole. It's not a knock on Cobb's production, but running backs like Cobb don't get drafted high. His speed is really going to hurt him. It doesn't mean he won't be a success though.Arian Foster who wasn't even drafted and he had similar speed problems. Somebody will take a flyer on him, but in today's NFL I bet Melvin Gordon doesn't even go until the 20s.

Running backs just aren't worth as much in the NFL anymore. They don't last very long and aren't worth taking high in the draft. Especially this year when there are a lot of really good backs coming out. Its not a knock on cobb to say he won't go until the 4th or 5th round, it has more to do with how the running back is perceived in todays NFL.

Back to the subject at hand... I know Cobb really really really wants to play in this game but if he isn't healthy enough to go he just won't be as effective. I hope I'm wrong and Cobb is ready to go but I just don't see him recovering and playing well after just one week. Even if Cobb was 100% it wouldn't be unrealistic to say Leidner will have to play the game of his life for us to win this one.. or at least play as good as he did in the Iowa game. Thats going to be the key whether Cobb plays or not.

Foster is the reason Cobb will be drafted. If a team wants him, they can't let him go to UFA status.
