I have no idea if Matt Limegrover is in play for NIU's HC position, but if he is (or if he doesn't come along to the U for some other reason), how would everyone feel about Hammock as OC? It seems like most are willing to give Horton the most credit for the Illinois and Iowa wins, but it felt as though the biggest overall change came in the offensive playcalling, for which Hammock was responsible. I personally would be very pleased, as he seems to "get it" as a playcaller, is still very young, and is by all accounts a great recruiter.

If it's Kills offense and Kill is calling the plays I have no problem. Hammock is the only departing coach that will get serious interest.

I like Hammock and feel as though he was our best offensive recruiter and would hope that he gets every chance to stay here at the U and continue his great work that he does!

I think Davis will get considerable interest and Watson and Horton won't have trouble finding work. On the defensive side of the ball, I have no idea. Lee and Cross will probably land somewhere.

I should have clarified. By serious interest I mean he could get an OC job somewhere, and the rest will assume similar positions. When a team is trying to get you as a OC they are seriously interested in you. Davis is the only possibility to stay in my opinion.

I think it will depend upon a) whether or not JK's OC comes over from NIU or if he gets the head job there, and b) what type of long-term coaching aspirations Hammock has. Would he be committed to stay with Coach K for the long-term, or would he look to move up or on in the short-term if successful?

Or maybe HC Horton allowed the play calling to be less 'conservative' than HC Brewster did. It was Brew that stated he wanted to 'pound the rock'.

If Shannon does not find another HC gig, I like the thought of him being a DC for the Gophers if he would be willing to...

PA on KFAN said his sources think Horton has a great chance of being the OC.

Kill will keep his staff almost entirely intact. NIU is looking outside for a HC candidate. Kill's coordinators have been with him 15 and 12 years. Hammock will not be OC, but may end up as recruiting coordinator and a position coach. The current NIU recruiting coordinator has only been so for one year. Hammock is a NIU grad, which is something. Davis has next best chance, as Limegrover is also the OL coach. After that, probably no one else stays.

One of the most appealing things about the Kill hiring is that he has a close in-tact staff for years. That sort of structure and stability is exactly what we need to turn around this program. Kill's OC has been with him for 17 seasons (same as his DC), they will be coming here. I don't think they have any notions of coaching at Northern Illinois because Northern Illinois hasn't named their interim coach and for the sake of their bowl game if they thought these guys would stay (or even wanted them to), they would have announced them.

The only guys, in my opinion who have much a chance are Davis and John Butler.

They are both good recruiters and have both recruited well outside the state of MN (especially Butler in Texas and downsouth). Davis is likely because their offensive coordinator is also their line coach, so their will likely be an opening for line coach (Davis). Butler could find work because he has coached LBs, Defensive Lineman, and special teams and has a strong connection to Texas.

Hammock is tricky because he coaches in the precise positions where the Kill staff is probably the strongest (RB development and OC). He does have some ties to memebers of the Kill staff (the ones who were kept on after Novak left), and Kill is a close friend of Novak (who coached Hammock). I would imagine that Kill would like to keep Hammock because he does a nice job with RBs and for recruiting, but I just think they'd have a tough time finding a spot for him.
