The U can be chipped for a lot of things but this is ridiculous. The U hired a black basketball coach in the mid 80s. They had a black AD in the early 90s. As others have pointed out, several black players were honored immediately. The only ones who haven't been honored (Jackson) or were delayed (Burton) were from a rule that applies to everyone.

Who is this Hallman joker? He also wrote the article complaining that TCF wasn't instead named for Sandy Stephens.

Am I missing something.....or has the U been bad at honoring black and female athletes comparatively to the white male counterparts? Nothing that I've noticed. I mean....we aren't Iowa.
 



I don’t think Minnesota’s contribution to integration, especially in sports, has ever been fully recognized. When I was a student in the late 50’s and early 60’s, there were two brothers on campus who organized freedom rides to push for integration: Eugene Debs Uphoff and Norman Thomas Uphoff. Their parent were university faculty members, who had run a camp for conscientious objectors during World War II. They were socialist and named their sons after well-known socialist politicians. One of the brothers suffered a broken back while incarcerated in a Mississippi jail.

During the same period, Carl Rowan, an African American, who had a degree in journalism from the U and was then a columnist for the old Minneapolis Tribune, began recruiting black athletes for the Gophers. My understanding is that he was at least in part responsible for the recruitment of such elite players such as Carl Eller and Bobby Lee Bell: players who contributed immeasurably to our last two Rose Bowl appearances and our last National Championship. Division I Schools at the time did not recruit blacks, and I believe Minnesota had much to do with the integration of college sports.

Minnesota did play a large role. USC and UCLA WERE WAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE.

You’ve posted this a few times, curious to see what your sources are. Minnesota seems to be in the upper half of the B1G when it comes to student body diversity.
However, outside of Rutgers, the B1G seems to be behind the curve based on each individual state’s general population distribution.
 

Why not symbolically raise jerseys for St. George and Breonna whats her name? After the game we can symbolically march and then burn and loot Dinkytown and/or Stadium Village.

Jay Williams is a perfect illustration of being race obsessed to the point of delusion, in his mind he lives in a world that does not exist. In his mind everyone is racist and wouldn't hire black coaches, but yet in the real world black coaches are hired. He is so convinced that this is reality that he didn't even bother to research if his thoughts were valid, but even worse he was so convinced of the delusion that he proclaimed it in front of millions of people and didn't even think twice. Hallman is the exact same thing, the world he actually lives in is different than the one he lives in in his mind. This makes you question anything they say regarding race, because their thoughts are derived from a world that does not exist except in their own heads.
