Grayson Grove progression

The fact that he gets the ball from the ref and fires it without dribbling or focusing tells me he's got a mental block going on and he doesn't want to think about his form or the crowd while he's at the line. I hope it improves because I love his effort.

Exactly..

Grove is showing a ton of unexpected improvement (at least for me). What I can't explain is why our coaches haven't had him completely reconstruct his free throw routine and fundamentals.

As others have pointed out, his Dave & Buster's pop-a-shot approach is not only hard to watch, it's also an unrepeatable process of hot potato.

I'd expect the hot-potato FT approach to be just a cope to get through the season, then the real work will begin.

I think Grove will be a long-term piece for this team, always in a similar role to the one he has now. He'll be the first or second guy off the bench, bring energy defensively, get some garbage buckets, and knock down an occasional 3.

He will be able to play more minutes as he gets stronger and more polished.

He's going to be the guy other Big Ten teams hate, and it'll feel like he's been playing for a decade by the time he's a senior lol.

With his contributions so far this season he does appear to have a huge upside. Reminds me of an old school player who works hard and loves the game.

Sounds an awful lot like Dusty Rychart. Not many Gophers (if any) accomplished more with effort and heart than he did.
Rychart was much more skilled than Grove. Grove is, at the moment, an undersized grunt. With Grove, I actually question the strength and conditioning coach. It almost seems that Grove is working with the football team and gaining pure strength without concern for maintaining a fluidity in basketball skills. It's like he has lost all fundamentals regarding shooting a basketball. I don't think he was this bad when he came out of high school.

Rychart was a basketball junkie and no doubt had better overall "hoop skills" than Grove does. He overcame his lack of athleticism with those skills, desire and effort.

When he first came to the U, Dusty was not a guy I thought would ever be close to a major contributor for the program at any stage of his Gopher career. He proved me wrong and I hope that's a comparison we can make when Grove's Gopher career is completed.

Speaking of Chase Thompson, any chance he comes home? Would we want him? Only getting a few minutes a game at Clemson

I have dealt with a mental block in golf before and it is a hard road to recovery. My specific issue was I had the yips on putts longer than 15 ft. If I was 20 ft out the closest I could get it was to 10 ft and then I would drain the 10 footer. Two things worked for me. 1st: Talking or counting while putting. This was a good first step and it gets your mind off thinking about every tiny detail of the putting stroke. 2nd: distance practice, instead of looking at the ball, look where you want to putt it and swing. Doing that made me much more comfortable doing long putts and gave me the confidence to hit long putts.

If I was coaching him, I would have him get a routine back and start counting/talking (in his head or out loud) during his stroke. And then practice from closer and slowly move back as he makes more and more.

I give a lot of credit for the work Grove is obviously putting in. I also am so grateful that most of our current uninjured players are playing close to their top potentials. Players like Grove know what role they play and rarely try plays beyond their abilities.

I really like the coaching right now!

This only happens in movies and is irrefutably impossible. It is a scientific fact I have proven thousands of times.

I was in a season long match play tourney and I did it seven times in one match. The roller coaster of emotions my opponent felt took him out of the match 😂.

Lost the next match because I did not make those putts and I missed a 3 footer.
