Gray = QB

Can Alipate catch a ball? I like to get the most out of the talent available.

If you want to get the most from the roster alipate doesn't see the field. I can tell you with 100% certainty he is not one of the top 22 players on the team.

IMO, a total waste of his talent at WR.

Seriously?! No, you sir are wrong. A waste of talent would have been him sitting on the bench or signaling plays to Weber.

In response to the thread title: Was there honestly any doubt? Anyone who doubted that Gray would have been QBing our team this next season, I wonder about.

Justin gaard's obsession with Moses alipate was all the proof one needed to know he knew nothing about football. It was painfully obvious gray was the next guy for about three years now

Justin Gaard is the worst kind of fan. He is a Gopher basketball fan and an Iowa football fan, that just doesn't compute. I honestly have more respect for our Hog Farmers brethren to the South or our Cow-Kissing friends to the East...at least i'd imagine they are just simply fans of their respective teams.

Heck, even Lakesbison is a more stand up kind of fan. He has an odd obsession with acting like he likes the Gophers, but we all know that deep down he is a Bison fan first and foremost in every sport. I am sure there has been a time when he has posted the recruits of the NDSU women's basketball team on Gopherhole. As odd as it is, at least he is consistant.

Having Gray on the team is one thing that should have attracted a coach. A dual threat QB with loads of potential is a nice asset to have for a coach that is coming in.

Coach Kill has been around some decent dual threat QB's. I guarantee he's licking his chops looking at Gray's skill set. A player like Gray makes a coach more confident about his team. You can do more, disguise more, and plan better. The competitive edge gray gives an offense is no different than prior at Ohio state, Newton at Auburn, QB at Nevada, QB at Northern Illinois, QB at South dakota, Bolden from penn state.

Why are Minnesotans the only dbags that don't see this?

You my friend are the Dbag. You try making it sound like you need a dual threat QB to have success. I guess all those pocket passing QBs who have had success in the past have not given the coaches they played for the ability to "do more, disguise more and plan better" as you so eloquently put it.

Sanawi, I'd like you to do me a favor. The past 5 years go look at schools that have had success and more times than not see what type of QB they have(I'm talking college football here). On top of that, go look at the programs that have been pretty bad but are now seeing success and see what type of QB they have more times than not.

On top of that, watch how competitive the Gophers will become by utilizing a dual threat QB. In my opinion this is our missing link.

I'm sensing there might be a deeper issue with you here regarding the typical pocket passer and dual threat QB.

Sanwi - are you saying Kill is also a dbag because he would rather have a dual threat Qb as well?

I'm struggling to see yr point.

"We lack depth in a lot of areas, but a talented quarterback is a great starting point."
Exactly why you put Gray at QB no matter how thin the WR position is. I can't wait to see Gray playing QB full time, you want your most talented player with the ball in his hands.

I don't know for certain by any means. I just got a gnawing feeling the Gophers next year are not going to lack quite as much depth at WR as is originally believed. I have been wrong before, to be honest, but with Mcknight and Keise, and considering Brew held back a few players to let them learn and develop along with one or two coming in, I don't think it is going to be quite as bad as might be believed.

Also, all of next year is a little bit of a question mark because of the coaching that is going to happen. Brew and crew did have an eye for talent, so it will be interesting to see what this present staff does with that talent.

BTW - I like Stoudemire at cb as well and hope they keep him there. He seems more of a natural there and I suspect he likes to hit people once in a while. It gives him an opportunity to vent some of his aggression.

Considering Stoudemire basically clinched the Iowa game for us, I'd like to see him stay there, too.

I get your point. But just because a QB isn't dual threat, doesn't mean he's any worse or better than a QB that is. It's about the system they play in just as much as the QB's individual talents.

That said, I don't understand your ripping on Minnesotan 'dbags'. Completely unwarranted.

No I wasn't saying Coach Kill is a dbag for liking a dual threat QB, far from it. I am sure most coaches have a favorite type of player at each position on the team. That does not mean they will have the exact type of player they favor at each position every year.

If our best option at QB going into next year was the best pocket passer in the nation do you think Kill would of come in touting the fact that he likes mobile dual threat quarterbacks and benched that guy? My guess is he would of come in and tailored his offense to fit that kid while the kid was here. He would then recruit the kind of QB he wants in the future.

Point being you can have success with any type of QB as long as he is good at what he does. If you really thought I was in anyway taking a shot at anybody other than you your mistaken.

Surely you aren't saying that all other things being equal, that a QB that isn't a dual threat is as good as one that is, right?

Right?

He plays like he has a chip on his shoulder, and I think Def. is where he can best play with an attitude.
