Gray = QB

I'm not sure he had a choice. This kid is too hyped, and too talented. He's gotta at least give it a shot with him.

It makes sense, because Kill's offense is run heavy. He does add a spark at WR, but he's probably more useful at QB if we're going to run a lot. I would guess he is still going to catch a fair number of passes. Gray still may play WR in the pros.

"We lack depth in a lot of areas, but a talented quarterback is a great starting point."
Exactly why you put Gray at QB no matter how thin the WR position is. I can't wait to see Gray playing QB full time, you want your most talented player with the ball in his hands.

Can Alipate catch a ball? I like to get the most out of the talent available.

IMO, a total waste of his talent at WR. When this guy was a freshman at his 1st camp, Rittenburg was of the opinion that he was ahead of Pryor, particularly in passing! Look what a guy like Pryor or Robinson do for an offense. Better to make Bennett a WR. This is the kind of player that can put fear into any defense coordinators mind. JK will know how to exploit his potential. I'm pumped to see this offense this fall!

Amazing that a topic that was beaten to death repeatedly through the last two years gets a total of nine responses in five hours. :)

Based on this news, I'm officially excited for next season.

Not to knock a player like Weber, whose name now is stamped all over our record books, but I think a player like Gray could take this team to a level that Weber could not. Weber, in my opinion, would have been a fantastic qb for a top team but just wasn't quite dynamic enough to carry us. Gray, with the multiple ways he can potentially beat opponents (I guess we haven't really seen his passing ability...but I'm speculating and hoping) could beat teams by himself. Could be an exciting first couple years of Kill's career here if he can coach up the defense.

Gray running the read option with these running backs will be a definite force.

You can find receivers, but 6'4 QBs that can bowl over linebackers and out run cornerbacks are hard to come by.

HA

Our lord and savior is here.haha
Key word being in his hands lets hope he can avoid putting it on the deck.

Now that weber is gone who are you gonna blame for the terrible defence???

No one on here ever blamed Weber for the terrbile defence. People where harder on his mistakes and errors than other players, but that goes with playing QB. I think I might start blaming defensive issues of this team going forward on Weber, just to piss off idiots like you.

Idiots huh. I guess that how sarcastic comments get treated around here. Dont get me wrong im excited to see what our offense looks like next year to. i just have a hard time seeing us getting more than 5 win next year largely based on how bad the defense played.
Lets hope Gray can run the read offense better than he can read.

Didn't get your sarcasm, hard to do in writing most times. The defense will be improved over last year, how much better they will be is anyone's guess.

Should be extremely exciting. Hopefully now he can focus on fine tuning his QB skills all offseason and come out a well balanced machine!!!

Every team needs a quarterback. If not Gray, then who?

A no brainer. Never doubted that this would be the case.

Lets hope if he struggles a bit and can't block, tackle, play defense, he is not the fall guy.

His job as QB, Im gonna blame him for everything!

Anyone no who our punter is next year. Gray has to have a bigger leg than orseke.

Yep. Make a comment like that and you are infact an idiot.

I'll grant you this. It didn't take long for you to prove it. Brevity. It's cool.

With this simple and expected move Kill has already outdone Brewsters work at Minnesota.

Don't worry. I'm sure he'll only be the fall guy if he is erratic at best throwing the ball and repeatedly chokes in crucial situations.

Good news. Weber was used primarily as a passer the past two years but passed at 50 to 55%, not nearly good enough in the Big Ten, where the better passing QBs are hitting at 65 to 75%. Gray should have been QB earlier, but Brewster was stubborn. Gray may not pass at better than 55%, but his running makes for a different game.

If Gray has a season as bad as Weber's JR season, than I gurantee you that people will be blasting this kid.

This season, for the most part, people were ripping the fact that Gray wasn't getting PT (to get him more ready for next season) way more than they were blaming Weber for how bad we were.

Weber's JR season he was terrible. He was much worse than our defense and he deserved to get some blame.

It probably won't be as bad, cause perception is that Gray doesn't have anyone as talented as him waiting in the wings, no 4-star, highly touted recruit from an All-American game sitting there collecting dust. But yes, Gray will no doubt catch plenty of heat if he struggles mightily.

The thread is about Gray and his and our fb team's future.

Weber is done...let him go!

chri1673 is criticizing Gray's ability to read yet can't
1- punctuate let's correctly
2- spell Orseske
3- know the difference between know and no

calling you an illiterate clod may underestimate your lack of IQ and social graces

Jebus Effing Eff. Are you effing kidding?

Did you question Weber's ability to read? Or do you reserve that sort of criticism for only certain kinds of players.

This is the sort of idiocy that makes me never want to come here again. Jebus.

gopherjay - let the past go. Just think about the Michigan State first down run happening 3-5 times per game next year! Because of Gray's talents, he'll make the players around him better. He will create momentum for the offense. He will score points in the first half instead of waiting until we're down by 30.

If he doesn't have happy feet and look like a deer in the head lights every time a blitz comes through, all will be well.

We're not where we want to be, but thankfully we're not where we were.
