GopherSports: Who is your Minnesota Gopher WR Mount Rushmore?

Mine were same as Bleed's. Looking at the list though, its clear we haven't had very many truly top level receivers. I think these 4 are the clear easy choices with this position group

Mine too. Might be slightly early on Bateman but if he has a year anything like last year he will easily earn his spot.

Decker, RJ, and TJ are no brainers. If I had to make it today I might be tempted to put Thelwell or Atwell up there over Bateman but a strong case could be made that Bateman deserves it already.

I was at the U when Thelwell was playing and he was sick, but those teams were so bad. Basically track meets, so we racked up a lot of meaningless offensive stats. Kinda how I viewed Darkins on the RB selections.

I think, regarding Bateman, what resonated for me was: first Gopher ever to win Big Ten Receiver of The Year. That's pretty big-time.

Thelwell in 3 seasons of playing (was academically ineligible his senior year)

136 catches
2,232 yards
14 touchdowns

Bateman in 2 seasons
111 catches
1,923 yards
17 touchdowns

It's Bateman.

Wow. Even with 3 years, Bateman has a chance to leave here with some SERIOUS numbers. I could easily see him crack 3,100 yards and 30 TDs (assuming we play a full season)

Edit: All-time leaders in yards (TJ with 3.305 and Decker with 3,119) and TDs (TJ with 33 and RJ with 31) are all actually in reach for Bateman this year with an epic year. I think #2 in both categories is quite doable. An extra game (Big Ten Title game?) sure would help!

Bateman's stats are unreal compared to most of those guys and he did it in some meaningful games. He is on the list.

I gave some consideration to Wheelright but ultimately went with the same 4 as Bleed.

Certainly there's a case to be made for AJ Barker's mom's best friend. She didn't produce much on the field, but her story is nothing if not compelling.

The BFF's quote was about Kill:

He’s an ego-maniacal, self-centered, narcissistic jerk who appears to care about no one but himself, and certainly not AJ’s health. And AJ just happens to be his best player, who he obviously will sacrifice at the drop of a hat

Johnson, Johnson, Bateman, Decker

good debate on number 5:
Atwell, Douglas, wheelwright, Thelwell any other contenders?

Decker, R. Johnson, T. Johnson, and......
Rashod Bateman, based on what he will do in the coming season. Otherwise, E. Wheelright would be 4th

Did I miss a 5th head being added to Mount Rushmore?
