you are correct. the kid did what coaches asked him to do. one more thing: there is no excuse for anything called leidner island and it got weird how some felt compelled to defend the poor play of a college football player.
That's not really what is happening. Most everyone agrees he isn't a great QB. He makes mistakes. The point many are trying to make is that he also isn't as bad as some make him out to be. The problem is some think that if you defend anything about him, then that means you think he is a great QB.
You can like a player even if they make many mistakes.
