per GopherSports:

Mitch Leidner joined Rickey Foggie as the only Minnesota quarterbacks to throw for 20 career touchdowns and run for 20 career touchdowns when he plunged into the end zone from one yard out against Nebraska. Leidner, who has played in 29 games, now 20 rushing touchdowns and 21 passing touchdowns in his career.

Foggie wore the Maroon and Gold in 43 career games from 1984-1987. He passed for 33 career touchdowns and holds the career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 24. The former Gopher quarterback ran for multiple touchdowns in six games and is the school’s record holder for rushing yards by a quarterback with 2,150.

Go Gophers!!

One of these guys is my favorite Gopher of all time.

Ironic that these two prolific eagle eye passers would be in something called the 20/20 club.

Here's a comparison of Foggie's career stats and Leidner's to date:

Pass--------------------------------------------Rush
Cmp Att Pct Yds Y/A AY/A TD Int Rate---Att Yds Avg TD
292 628 46.5 4903 7.8 6.6 33 32 119.2 510 2038 4.0 24

290 526 55.1 3727 7.1 6.6 21 15 122.1 285 980 3.4 20

Let's say Mitch is the starter next season. He should have no problem finishing his career with better passing stats and more overall TDs. Yet Foggie seems to be widely admired for his career as a Gopher while Leidner has been widely despised. Perhaps it's a product of lower expectations and no social media in the mid 80's, but it is pretty amazing what Mitch has accomplished with a limited skillset and no consistent run threat in the backfield. Foggie had an All-American RB behind him for three seasons compared to one full season of Cobb for Leidner.

I'm not saying Leidner isn't beyond criticism, but neither is he deserving the wrath that other Gopher QBs are exempt from.
