Sounds like a lot of us watched this game online or listened on the radio. This was one of our most important non-conference games and I think we found out a lot about our team tonight.

-Thank you Andre Hollins. We are lucky to have this kid. He is the rock on this team that is full of unknowns. Whenever things got shaky he scored a bucket or hit a few free throws. He didn't even shoot the ball well tonight but he was still the obvious MVP.

-The new rules. I think a lot of teams will be in foul trouble early in the season until this is figured out. Little Dre, EE, and Austin being out in the first half for long stretches really hurt.

-Austin Hollins. I was hoping he'd become a more consistent scorer in his senior season, and so far that isn't the case. He was 3-13 tonight. I will give him HUGE props on the boards tonight though as he pulled down a team high 11 rebounds.

-The press. I think we're a long way off from where Pitino wants this team to be. We were great in the press for the first few minutes of the game. After that, I don't know if it was foul trouble or if we're just not in good enough shape, but it was useless the rest of the game.

-The PF spot. Oto and King are essentially the same player but King has an obvious mental edge. He doesn't get flustered or lose his cool like Oto seems to do. I'd like to see King get the majority of minutes at this spot eventually, and I think that will happen as the season goes on.

Agree about Oto and King, but I like how Pitino starts Oto. I think Oto gets a confidence boost as a starter and I like King's spark off the bench, I think this is why Pitino starts Oto. He has hinted as much in a couple of press conferences this year.

Pitino's quote on the radio just now, on why they switched defenses to the zone: "Normally, when they score on you EVERY possession..."

Funny guy.

Rodney Williams was at the game!

I had a walk away when it was 61-59. The last comment from the announcer was 'We've got to stop them on this possession'. 19-0 run to end the game is pretty impressive!

Love the brutal honesty. I have a feeling Pitino gave a lot of positive comments to the team as well though.

Fun fact about Austin Hollins: his career high for rebounds before this year was 7 (did it twice his sophomore year). He started out with 7 and now has 10 and 11.

ESPN says just 8 team turnovers. Does that seem right?

Very cool. He got cut by the 76ers, where did Rodney end up?

Mav 7 min 3 to's.

Mav don't just do something, be a statue.

I appreciate him being given the chance to back up at PG, just because it's ideal for Andre's sake if he can function in Little Dre's place. Unfortunately it's just not going to work. Mav will do some good things for this team, but it won't be handling the ball.

Yep. It's just not a pretty sight when he starts to dribble and tries to make something happen. I think Pitino will have to play Dre Hollins at PG more than he wants to because we just don't have a reliable backup to Little Dre.

+1

Little Dre can have all the minutes he can eat if he avoids foul trouble. Hopefully he learned about that tonight.

Good news going forward is that all of our games will now be on BTN or ESPN networks.

The big adjustment is going on the road. The Gophs have been getting sweetheart treatment at home for the most part, and nobody's been in foul trouble. Tonight the calls were more even, and we got some ticky tacks against us. Dre Hollins' 4th foul was bad judgment. It's a good idea to try and tip the ball away from behind - except when you have 3 fouls midway through the second half of a close game.

Our press and M2M defense were horrible tonight. That needs to be a major point of emphasis.

Gritty win though, lots to like. Richmond is a terrible shooting team, we've seen that before.

And Austin's 2nd foul in the first half was an over the back ticky-tack foul. Just not smart. We need those guys to play 35-ish minutes a night.

Mav is at point where Miles Tarver rules apply. As long as you don't dribble or shoot anything that's not a put pack, you'll be fine. Sadly, that works better for a PF than a PG.

A win is a win, and at the end of the year it does not matter how you got them!

Mav can shoot as long as he is standing still. He can't walk and do anything else at the same time.

A few thoughts;
Smith has yet to go to the FT line. I hope RP reins him in his shot selection a bit. He really doesn't have a strong part to his game. Too bad he isn't a PG.

The Dre boys must stay on the floor as much as possible and stay healthy.

Still waiting for Austin to break it open. We need his scoring.

Come on Mav, play like a Senior!! He looks very tentative. The team needs you!!

I think King and Oto will be OK sharing time. We need an improved Mo back in there. Until then, they are playing out of position. Same with Austin.

EE. He sure has not been much of a factor the last two games. Hope Mo can give the 5 spot a boost and EE some relief.

What in the world are you talking about? Don't rebounds and defense count?

Even more than stats, when he was in the game he detered Richmond from continually attacking the basket, like they were doing when they made their run. When King and Oto were on the floor together, Richmond was scoring at will in the paint.

Agreed. Not to mention blocks - 7 in 3 games. I was surprised EE only shot once tonight, but even so I don't know if they would have won without him. Who's going to fill that void?
