This is good news. Now we have 3 upper class TEs coming back with some promising younger players. KC looks like he’s going to open up the passing game some more and having Spann-Ford back will certainly help get the TE room involved.
 





Geers will be the canary in the coal mine on this one. I’m surprised he didn’t get more run last year and he likely would’ve taken 88’s spot had he moved on. Hopefully, he will be patient since we all know that PJ doesn’t share the wealth of playing time much so he’ll have to wait another year. 87 will continue to fill the blocking TE role.

I’m pretty sure Geers will be a redshirt Sophomore next year so he has plenty of time left to play. I’m not sure I’d label him as the “Canary in the coal mine” as there was always the chance BSF was going to return.

Geers will play a ton next year. Hope he stays and I don’t see any reason he wouldn’t, but we have a number of young TEs and kallerup is a bad dude too.
 

Please throw him some fades near the goal line, please!
 

Maybe we can join the ranks of 80%(my guess) that use 2/3 tight ends on the same play.
 




BSP had chosen wisely! AK should be elated with senior leadership at a critical position for the Gophers' passing attack next season. KC is cooking up new schemes to fit the talent he has available.

I'm always impressed with how quickly the GH can go negative.
Instead of saying how great it is to have an excellent tight end returning, you just skip the positive and go right to fear mongering over something that doesn't exist.

I think swingman's comment is a fair and rational one for any fan, especially after what happened last year: Morgan announces he's coming back - Clark and Annexstad bolt; Mo announces he's coming back - Thomas and Irving leave as well. He might be excited to have BSF return, he just didn't include that part. I'm cool with it.
Anyway...I'm looking forward to the days when the Covid-year players are gone.

Clark and Annexstad bolted because of Athan.

Clark barely played at Missouri State. That isn't a shot to him but Athan being the heir apparent was the worst kept secret around the program.

As far as the RBs, yeah, I think Thomas probably left because of Mo but keep in mind he picked a program with way more running back depth. It's not entirely clear when he will get significant PT again. As far as Bucky, I think that was $$$. He essentially said so much.

I am not sure if the extra COVID year is going to change much. Geers was a RS FR this year and he played quite a bit. It's not like he has been waiting a super long time. He's actually gotten PT earlier in his career than BSF and that was without a COVID year.

I think concerns of underclassmen transferring will continue after COVID years expire.
 

Call me crazy but I'll take a known very good player coming back for an extra year if the tradeoff is the threat of a younger, inferior player taking off. The hand wringing over Clark and Annexstad was ridiculous. Don't have Tanner come back so two guys who couldn't pass him on the depth chart don't transfer out?

Agree, I would much rather have the known commodity back again for another year. On top of that the portal makes it possible to go out and find an experienced replacement if you end up needing one due to some younger players jumping ship for whatever reason.

I mean it sucks to see younger players bolt but that is just the reality of college football these days. Projecting a roster out a couple years really isn't a thing anymore because the churn is so extreme from year to year right now.

Probably all true, I was just playing Swingman's advocate, I didn't see his comment as negative, just a college football fan's concern in this day and age...I think the reply to his comment came in maybe just a little hot.
As for my Covid comment, sure, concerns of underclassmen transferring will continue after Covid-year players are gone, but at least underclassman won't be dealing with guys riding that extra year above and beyond what they're traditionally allowed...which can make a difference for a young guy deciding wether or not to transfer. I don't think I'm wrong to want things to get back to normal regarding eligibility years. That's all I was trying to say.

Geers appeared in a handful of games and had 2 catches. I would guess he played like 20 some snaps all year. That isn’t quite a bit.

For a FR TE, it is more than BSF.

He played in 9 games including against Wisconsin and Iowa (wasn't really mop up duty). I have no idea the number of snaps he played, but my whole point was that for a FR, he was not absolutely buried on the depth chart.
 

Star tight end? He has a ways to go before he is considered a star. Hope he gets there.
