Gophers receive a commitment from Texas WR Brady Boyd

I love having as many touted receivers on the team as possible. Great receivers like Bateman are hard to predict. It might take having 12 receivers to find 3/4special guys. For all of you TE guys, I will take home run receivers every time. We need guys who can return kicks and punts, who can fly down the field on special teams. Until recently we have always lacked speed....now Fleck is getting burners, love it!

Boyd's qb is the top high school qb in the country!

I'm just saying!

PJ is a helluva recruiter, and he is getting quality kids from all over the country to come to MN. I love it.

So his profile shows 6-1 175.

In the Big Ten, and particularly for a run-first team like the Gophers, he's going to need to add some weight (strength) to his frame, to help with blocking. Right?

Just wondering how much his 40 will slip, when he's 195, instead of 170 (or whatever weight he was when he clocked 4.44sec about a year ago). And ultimately, how much does that matter?

Added twitch strength/muscle could make him faster, too. It has for some guys over the years. Hard to say how a body will react.

Bateman was 180 in high school, now about 210. He lost no speed. Might have gained a fraction.

Twitch is the new football term. Personally I don't think I have any twitch left.

Houston - I also love the big time receivers we have been getting. I’ll take a 60 yard TD to Bateman any day over a 7 yard pass to the TE despite what some think.

That QB is the top rated QB in the country in his class. Only a Sophomore this year.
hope he comes here too, a good qb and wr duo would be great even though they might not play together because of the different classes.

Hell yes. Welcome, Brady.

Like others, I'm surprised to hear that QB is so good. Brady was making him look good on a lot of bad throws.

maybe that's why he's so good! he knows what his receivers are capable of, so he can over throw or lob it over the receiver especially in coverage ect.

When Brett Favre threw the last second TD to beat the 49ers ages ago he described seeing a guy "streaking" and IIRC his quote was something like "I threw it to where he was streaking to".

On a given play a good QB seems more interested in spotting any gaps or holes or lanes to throw through and putting the ball there... trusting his WR to be there... and not sweating all the chaos with the line around him.

I think it's a very instinctive type thing for QBs when they look downfield, we talk about schemes and plays but when the play starts it's probabbly all instinct at the critical moment.

Morgan throws some wobbly lobs sometimes, but they work, the DB has zero chance at them and the WR can make the play. That's all that matters. Some guy with a rocket arm who can't judge the play as well... he's of no use.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the comps yet. To me he looks like a cross between Eric Decker and Wes Welker.

“Morgan throws some wobbly lobs sometimes.”

I realize you like Morgan, so I don’t view that as a slight, but can you give an example of what you mean?

I agree with the main point of your comment. It’s called throwing his receivers open. That’s what he did on Johnson’s amazing catch against Auburn, and on numerous other occasions.

Love this commitment. Verified speed and on field production at the highest level of Texas football.

Reminds of AJ Barker, or maybe a taller, thinner Julian Edelman, shorter Adam Thielen, less heralded Decker.

Looks solid, good it factor quotient. Not sure he’s a 4.44 blazer but don’t need to be.

I saw more of a Joe Jurevicius/Tom Waddle/Wayne Chrebet mixture.....

Solid comparisons, reminds as the original AJ Barker type unheralded UDFA/walk on type that go on to be fan favorites (in AJ’s case for a somewhat shorter time ). Chrebet maybe compares as the original Wes Welker. Waddle maybe compares as the original Wayne Chrebet.

Boyd's QB just picked up an offer from LSU. Boyd also tweeted about a 4 star DB from AZ (Steven Ortiz Jr), who is announcing his college choice tonight, Gophers are in his top 5! GO GOPHERS!

Looking like Gophers are in his Top 1! Hate to jink it but huge momentum for Gophers from all media outlets talking about it.

I had to cancel my Star Tribune newspaper, because it would end up in the street in a puddle of water. The Star Tribune would never send a replacement paper, so I cancelled it. Gopher Hole is now my "newspaper" for sports. I love that last week, no one knew who Brady Boyd was, now we are breaking down his film! Including me. Go Gophers! ?
