The Gophers received a commitment from Southlake, Texas wide receiver Brady Boyd. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound pass catcher is a three-star prospect in the 2021 class, according to 24/7 Sports. He chose Minnesota over offers from Texas Tech, North Texas, Tulsa, Utah, Boise State, Oklahoma State and others. Boyd posted an excellent 4.44 40-yard dash and 4.22 shuttle, per The Opening Regional's data. He also tallied a 34-inch vertical, but is clearly above average in the speed metrics.

When I fired up Boyd's tape, I was impressed with his explosiveness and ability to get separation over the top. Within the highlights below, you’ll see a few plays where he adjusted and made difficult grabs outside of his frame. Boyd's ball tracking is something that really stands out in his cuts. I’ll have more on this addition, but until then, here’s his film:

Welcome to the U Brady! Looks good on film to me...and PJ seems to know his wide receivers. Does this means no room for Seth Green's brothers?

I believe it does. In fact, is this guy better?

I think I've heard the green's have been looking around.

Some rivals forecasts still have them as 100% to Minnesota.

We're a long ways from knowing what we have room for. I'm guessing they would take his brothers, assuming they both want to come. Hard to know for sure but we'll be replacing Seth and Rashod after next year

Awesome! Video perhaps doing wonders along with the interaction of the coaches with the families.

I remember watching his highlights quite a while ago. PJ has been working on him for a long time.

PJ seems to have a special knack for evaluating WR's, and I totally trust him on his recruits.
Plus, Brady Boyd is a great football name. GO GOPHERS!

that QB looks good to! look at this throws and accuracy plus those long drives like Clarks arm!

That QB is the top rated QB in the country in his class. Only a Sophomore this year.

#2 overall player in the country. Fleck hasn’t offered him. He looks good in Boyd’s highlight video, but I never would have guessed he’s that highly touted.

Southlake is legit Tejas HS Football (they have won three consecutive state championships and built that big azz stadium which seats 11K and cost $15M to build in 2002 - this caused all kinds of consternation in many places, but not in Southlake, hehehe). Great getting him, makes it easier for then next one - start that pipeline.

Any one recall if/ when we've ever gotten a Southlake recruit before? I wanna say nope, but am not 100 percent on it.

His highlights were great to watch. He should fit in well here. I was curious about the quarterback and glad you guys cleared that up for me.

Almost 1000 yds receiving as a junior at Southlake Carroll... I'm sold...

Welcome! That tape is filthy. Super excited to watch this guy play for the Gophers!

That is one mighty fine by PJF! A real WR talent. Who will not want to play for PJF when the Gophers continue to parade WRs into the Pros?

Welcome to WR U Brady Boyd!

The Gophers will graduate three seniors plus Rashod Bateman will probably leave early as a 1st Round NFL prospect.

Coach Fleck likes to keep the development larder full. There will be healthy competition at Wider Receiver. After Bateman and CAB, opportunity knocks. Who will be ready to step up?

I wouldn’t have guessed either. Lots of the throws weren’t exactly right on the money.

So his profile shows 6-1 175.

In the Big Ten, and particularly for a run-first team like the Gophers, he's going to need to add some weight (strength) to his frame, to help with blocking. Right?

Just wondering how much his 40 will slip, when he's 195, instead of 170 (or whatever weight he was when he clocked 4.44sec about a year ago). And ultimately, how much does that matter?

A kid with 4.4 speed from the top HS in Texas? I would expect us to continue to get athletes like this. If he was two inches taller he would have offers from everyone.

Is Carrol the top program in Texas? I think several would beg to differ.

If their highlight film has the blue star on the field, it's close enough.
