Gophers receive a commitment from Connecticut defensive end Jah Joyner!

Danielle Hunter 2.0
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Danielle Hunter is a freak and a generational talent. The guy has 50 sacks at the age of 24. And he was a part time player behind Robison for two years! The guy is straight up slept on and because he doesn’t play in a high profile market he is underrated. He’s easily one of the top 2 defensive lineman, my opinion of course.

C’mon....I know this. Danielle Hunter wasn’t even “Danielle Hunter” in college. He’s a freak.

Practically every hit in that tape was like Jadeveon Clowney blowing up that Michigan dude. The opponents blocked it about as well as Big Blue did.

I know 247 rates him as a 4-star (barely) and he had a few other P5 offers. I’ve watched the the highlights posted above, as well as his Junior season stuff. I’m baffled that he didn’t get an even higher rating and more attention from helmet schools. His tape is ridiculous.

Offers are a pretty good indicator of how a player is perceived, but still far from perfect. They are somewhat self perpetuating in that guys that want lots of offers end up attending lots of camps and taking lots of visits. Some schools, like our neighbors to the East, typically won’t extend a formal offer until a recruit visits campus. Other schools are more liberal and extend offers just to get kids on campus. For someone like Jah and many others, if you commit relatively early, don’t attend many camps or visit 10 other schools, the offer list may not match up with a recruit’s potential.

The lack of putting himself out there has to be it. As far as I can tell, he visited Rutgers, UMass and Boston College before committing way back in June. He probably shut down his recruitment after that. Perhaps he even received more offers and didn’t report them. Regardless, we got really lucky this time.
