Gophers QB Mitch Leidner: We should be ranked

Meanwhile, every other CFB player in the country: "We don't worry about that kind of stuff. We just focus on the next game. The rankings and stuff will take care of itself."

That was just a tiny part of what was otherwise a decent read, btw...

Mitch leidner you got to be kidding me ...just do your part to win on Saturday , hit open receivers and don't throw to the wildcats

Have to beat someone that is ranked to get the recognition. They have a chance to prove "That they should be ranked on Saturday".
Not saying I disagree with Mitch but if your annoyed by it, then go out and kick some Wildcat butt this weekend.

I'm just going to hope him saying this is meaning the team has a chip on their shoulder and is going to show it Saturday by kicking some wildcat ass

Hopefully this link shows the video. I think the photo, and this article twist things a little and I think it's unnecessary. It's too bad, I usually like the Pioneer Press but this comes off as Star Trib to me. Cheap and lazy. Mitch is asked, "wish you were ranked?"

The guy believes in his team, his teammates, and himself. I like his answer. He believes they're good enough to be ranked and he believes they will be ranked. Maybe they won't be, but he's showing his confidence and belief and he is a leader of this team. It's not his damn fault the coaches are starting him and he's doing everything he can to help this team. So sick of this Mitch/QB crap! Give the kid a fricken' break.

Perfect take on it. Many here do not have the brains to realize what what really said and its meaning.

Nothing wrong here

It's difficult for me to see anything but respect for Mitch by his comments in the video... non story sensationalized for clicks once again.
Thanks for the video link!

Haha... What?

It's pretty simple, he was asked if he thought they should be ranked and he said yes. I don't get what the big deal is. Nothing wrong with saying he thinks they are a good team. It's not like he went out of his way to get his thoughts out in the public. He was asked a question.

Gophers QB Mitch Leidner: "we're not really quite as good as Northwestern" wouldn't have had quite the same ring.

What the heck is he supposed to say?

Just keep winning Mitch. It doesn't matter if it is by one point. Just win against ranked teams or not.

Start with NW, and the ranking will take care of itself.

We are seeing a balanced running and passing attack develop. Let's get the special teamers back on track, and the defense & OL healthier. I have never been this optimistic about the future of the team it is scary. Whether or not their ceiling is as high as the upper tier B1G, only time will tell.

On any given day, they believe they can compete against anyone. The team have confidence.

Mitch may quietly end his career with the most wins as a Gophers QB in recent history, and some people will still not give him his due respect.

Do we deserve to be ranked based on our resume so far? No.

Will we be ranked if we beat jNW in Evanston on Saturday? Almost certainly, and we'll deserve it.

Haven't really seen this discussed I guess, but is Mitch struggling with his knee or something else? There've not been many designed QB runs and more relevantly, he looks reluctant and not so effective when he does run. Anyone else seeing it that way or not really?

So, we only have 6 starters out (Travis, AJ, BBC, Christenson, Lauer, Anyanwu, Plesek), and 3 playing hurt (Pirsig, Poock & Wolitarsky). The only backup out is Rogers. On the road against a ranked team. Great test.

I've been wondering this all year. He barely runs, and when he does he looks far less athletic than he did the past two years.

I wondered the same, but I also wondered if it was a strategy thing. But yeah he seemed iffy when he runs now, slower, less decisive.

To me it seems like the coaches told him not to get hit. Last year when he would run the ball he would punish safeties and dbacks. This year he slides or runs out of bounds and thats only when he has called his own number. I'm betting during the B1G season he will run more.

Yep, it was similar in the non-conference last year too even before he was injured. If the staff thinks they need to mix in QB run to win a big game they will (Nebraska game last year).

If you want to be ranked, you gotta be able to beat the ranked. I think this is a perfect test.

Rogers is out again? He played last week.

I think I meant the post as a question. Was going to call up the "injuries" thread, but put it here to see what the responses were. JK said we had 7 starters leave the game and not return vs. Ohio. He said in Tuesday's presser that Wolitarsky and Poock would play, I think. Watching Shenault finish the game, when he wasn't even on the 2-deep, made me think we'd lost backups, too.
