Gophers QB comitt transfering high schools

The Fleck Era of QB's has been better than the Kill era....
Thought it could be interesting debate - looking at leading passer from their years, which coach had the best collection of QBs

Wacker - Fleetwood, Schade, Sauter
Mason - Sauter, Cockerham, Cole, Abdul-Khaliq, Cupito
Brewster - Weber
Kill/Claeys - Gray, Nelson, Leidner
Fleck - Rhoda, Morgan, Kaliakmanis, Brosmer, Lindsey

Gotta come down to Mason or Fleck. Mason gets the advantage of the better carry over QB by a mile and half. If you eliminate that guy I give Fleck the edge based on what Lindsey could become but Mason gets the edge in terms of what the players were over the course of their careers as Cockerham, AAK and Cupito were all solid.

At a time when teams are relying on transfer QBs because they can't recruit/develop one we have been able to have a solid run of success (8+ win seasons, bowl games, over .500 finishes in conference play) with QBs the staff has recruited/developed in all but the very first season and 2024.
Like @swede2 said, you're moving the goal posts. Just because we finished with > .500 record and won a bowl game doesn't necessarily mean it was because of how we recruited the QB position out of high school.

Besides Drake, we've had one good season from a QB we got out of high school (2019).

Spin that however you want.

So Fleck has been here since 2017 and has had a homegrown QB in all but one season.

2017 - Inherited a dumpster fire at the QB position - pre transfer portal so much less likely to get a transfer QB as a quick fix back in the old days.

2018-2022 - Morgan - Had his ups and downs but was a very successful college QB and absolutely was a hit in recruiting/development.

2022-2003 - Kaliakmanis - was a miss for us and not a shock that 2023 was the team's worst season outside of year 1.

2024 - Brosmer - Went the transfer route to fix the Kaliakmanis mess

2025+ - Lindsey - Homegrown, looks like he could be a really good one and still has multiple years left.

Tanner Morgan went 31-14 overall and 22-13 in conference play
Pre Tanner Morgan we were 8-11 overall and 2-11 in the Big ten under Fleck
After Tanner Morgan AK went 9-9 overall and 6-8 in the big ten in 2022 though 2023.
Cole Kramer went 1-0 in the quik lane bowl
Max Brosmer went 8-5 overall 5-4 in the big ten
Drake Lindsey so far is 8-5 overall and 5-4 in the big ten

Feel like Sauter went backwards under Mason, of course it was a much different offense

Tanner actually had a better completion percentage in 2022 than he did in 2019

Moving the goal posts from what? I think they have done a solid job recruiting the QB position and not having to rely on the transfer portal the way a lot of teams have to.

Tanner Morgan was one of the best QBs ever at the University of Minnesota (I get that isn't a high bar but he still was). Drake may end up as one of the best QBs ever at Minnesota if he continues to develop and improve the way players typically do. If Drake becomes one of the best ever at Minnesota Fleck will have recruited and developed 2 of the best QBs ever to play at the University of Minnesota.

But the emphasis is on the "lately.". That was how many years ago and while it started well, how did it end?

"Hit on" implies that he was successful here.

You're moving the goal posts. The original implication was that this staff finds and developed HS QBs in the recent past. That hasn't been the case.
My thoughts too. Drake looks like he has some potential so we’ll see
