Some tidbits from today. Gophers had their final open practice to media/fans today. Some observations...
- Athan Kaliakmanis didn't do any throwing today but participated in other stuff. Tyler Nubin was there but didn't participate as much too. Fleck after practice said "Nothing big" regarding Athan. He noted that a lot of decisions are based off of science and data. Both players will be a "full go" tomorrow. Sounds like nothing to be worried about there.
- Chris Autman-Bell got one step closer to a full recovery today. Sounded like he pulled in a nice touchdown catch from Drew Viotta (per Andy Greger)
- Sounded like the running back position will be a committee. Fleck didn't really give a clue on if any will be your bell cow. Which is par for the course. He said Bryce Williams is doing a great job leading the room and Sean Tyler is coming along good.
- Fleck talked highly on DL Anthony Smith today. A quote.. "He is a really good football player. I don't think that's hard to figure out...He is going to be really hard to leave off the field" He also talked about linebacker Devon Williams. Regarding those two players, he said "They will be really hard to leave off the field." This gives me some hope as the D line is one group I am worried about this fall.
- Fleck talked at length at how much he appreciated DC Joe Rossi. He mentioned how he has already turned down opportunities, but also knows he will be a HC one day.
