Gophers open as 8 point underdogs against Auburn.

Teams from the north are usually at a disadvantage in most bowl games. If not next door...in most bowl games the other team is usually a team from the south or in the same region. So I am not surprised the line is 8 points. I'm not saying that the Gophers can't win but I would think the line could be larger.

If memory serves me there is no disadvantage for right after BB suddenly abandoned WI the team asked BA to coach in their bowl against Auburn and WI won. Other BIG teams have gone to bowls against SEC teams and won.
The line is a bit less than Sagarin which is about 10points.
I watch far too much college FB.

Bowl game outcomes are super unpredictable becuase you never now how motivated each team is and (recently) which players will sit out, but considering what Wisconsin did to MN, this is actually a surprisingly small line. I'd expect it to move up...

I expect the line to increase. Am I off on that? Seems that the prevailing perception is that the talent gap is massive and we are likely to be blown out. I would think bettors would take Auburn to beat that spread. But what do I know.

I was expecting 7-8 points as an opener. I bet it rises to 9 or 9.5, as the public will put $ on the SEC team.

Yes, I was expecting 9 or 10, but the line may get there.

I suspect you are right.

I don't know that the talent gap is that massive but they have played more good teams. They are expected to have a DE who is a high first round draft pick but I don't think they are expected to have a lot more guys than us drafted in the first seven rounds. Their QB is a five star freshman who was rated as the top dual QB but his passing game isn't as good as Tanner's yet.

They lost the Rose Bowl to Stanford when that happened, but nice story. ? The Badgers have been successful against Auburn over the years.

I was writing about the last game BA coached when the HC left. I was wrong about the coach. It was Andersen not BB but it was the Outback and the team was Auburn and WI won when Auburn missed a tying FG in the last seconds..

There is so much parity and unpredictability in college football I think the Gophers have a pretty good shot despite a talent gap on paper. The guys have to be stoked about the opportunity.

Yikes! And they lost to LSU by 3 pts. They're within a whisker of No. 1 in the country.

5 loss team within a whisker of No. 1?
Auburn only lost 3 games - all in the top 10. I agree - they are very close to being the best team in the country. We will need our very best to have a chance to be successful.

I love a game like this. It will give us a barometer of how good we are, what we need to work on and how much farther we need to get to if we lose. We learn a lot from a game like this.

I love it because all the “realists” jump ship as fast as they can type. This has been a horrible season for them.

I think the bettors have been right on the Gopher games for about 10 games in a row, meaning the way the line moved was the right direction the game went. Las Vegas has lost money on Gopher games all year long and the biggest was the Northwestern game that opened at -7 and ended at -16. Someone made a lot of money on that one and it wasn't Vegas.

The unimpressive/vanilla wins in nonconference at the beginning of the year screwed up the statistical models bettors like to use (especially those that haven't watched the team and its improvement).

we should probably not even bother to show up, clearly we have no chance right?

Nobody will argue that Auburn is not a really good team. But I would still rather be in a good bowl against a tough team as opposed to some crap bowl against lesser competition.

if we lose, we lose. Won’t diminish what was a fantastic season if it ends in a loss to a top 10 team.

They were outgained 508-287 by LSU. It was one of those games where the score didn’t tell the whole story. So...no, they are not within a whisker of the #1 team in the country.

All I ask is the Gophers "Bring It" and we will see what happens. Unlike the Hogeye and Wisky games.

Started slow in the Iowa game but that one was there for the taking we just didn't get it done. This game against Auburn is a no lose situation for the Gophers. If we lose nobody will be shocked because Auburn is top 10 and in the all powerful, all mighty, greatest conference in college football, SEC. But if we win....that will be a great springboard into 2020 and will probably ensure we start 2020 ranked in the top 15.

The disparity in yards (in Alabama's favor) was almost as big in their win over Alabama.

My God, I forgot that happened twice. :)

Vegas and the other gambling sites make their money from their cut of each bet. THEY DO NOT CARE WHO WINS. They point and then move the spread to get as close to a 50/50 split on moneys bet as they can.
