My hometown's high school (Blooming Prairie,MN) has a better punter than Osieski or whatever the hell his name is. I doubt he even practices punting during practice. Sheesh!

This is his first bad game and people want him cut. Lol.

Ridiculous. You obviously don't pay much attention to Gopher football or:

a) you'd know that his name is Orseske, and
b) you'd know that he has an unbelievable leg.

He's been up and down, but I don't think it's time to write him off.

I just caught this but, the Awesome Blossoms are overrated man.

Did this yahoo actually put "I doubt he practices in practice" in the OP? I mean, there is stupid and there is stupid. Even for hyperbole that is extra silly.

I wouldn't write him off but this kid needs to be more consistent. He is really hurting them right now.

Calling this his first bad game is a horrible reach, but OP has no idea what he's talking about, obviously. Orseske has looked spotty at best in games, but from what I understand he's ripped off some monster punts in practice/scrimmages.

Is it possible he has some sort of performance anxiety that's hurting him in games, or is this just a matter of everyone focusing on the occasional great kick when he's really just an inconsistent-to-bad punter?

Coming into this game he was 5th or tied for 4th (I can't remember) in the Big 10 in punting. He does a nice job. He does seem to battle some inconsistancies and he had a rough game today.

But the OP is obviously off base here.

He really does need to gain some consistency. I suspect that Peter Mortell would be in there punting if the coaches thought that he was better.

Gotta be in the running for worst post ever. a) Equating your HS to Big Ten FB b) Not knowing the name of the guy who you say is awful ... basically admitting that you've never watched or paid attention prior to today when you were 5 beers in and got mad and c) Making a statement that he doesn't practice during practice ... cuz I'm pretty sure Jerry Kill tells the punters and kickers to play Twister during practice when they get bored.

Having said that, Dan's gotta be better or we need to fill the spot next year.

The operative word here is consistency

The kid is obviously capable of punting well but lacks consistency. There has been discussion here about the fact that the coaches last year changed his punting technique to more of a rugby style. The new coaches have been working with him to regain his old form. I personally believe though that he is also having some confidence issues. Hopefully, he can take a page from Gray's notebook and begin to become more comfortable as a punter. The kid can and does boom the ball when he is in the zone.

Let's not write him off too soon. If you want to write somebody, write off froggopher. That man needs to get a grip on reality.

He's ripped a handful of bombs in games too. Kid has the leg. Just hasn't displayed the consistency. Last season the coaching staff asked him to start rugby kicking it which was tough for him. The only thing you can hope for is that his consistency can improve. Because if he pulls it together he'll be good.

EDIT: Well, I start watching a game on TV and totally missed Killjoy saying exactly what I said. :)

I expect wren will write you off if he finds out that you are saying exactly what I said.

Dan O will get his groove back. I have faith. Everyone has off days.

During the game they mentioned he has a 40 yard average on the season. That is pretty impressive for how many times he has shanked a punt.

He is still young...missed almost a whole season with Mono...and did I mention he is still young. An O-lineman has a bad game it's two false starts and a couple missed blocks. Unless it is at a crucial time...nobody notices. The punter has a bad game and its a 34 yard average net on punts instead of a 42 yard average and everyone thinks its the end of the world. He has the leg, he just needs more game experience and confidence. Yes, his bad game hurt us against MSU and I am sure he knows it. But calling for him to be replaced considering all his games and punts would be silly.

The kid has one heck of a leg. Probably one of the best the U has had, but has a confidence and concentration problem. Some kickers can overcome this some can't. It's a matter of how long they give him to get it togather.
