Gophers Men's Track and Field is Ranked #1 in the Nation

What's their biggest strength this year?
Here are a few points as to why they are ranked #1
  • National leaders: Kion Benjamin, 100 meters (10.13); Devin Augustine, 200 meters (20.49); Matthew Wilkinson, steeplechase (8:29.35); Isaiah Schafer, shot put (19.79m/64-11¼)
  • National top-5 marks: 6
  • National top-10 marks: 9

Wow! That is fantastic! Great job and congrats.

Minnesota is currently ranked #23 nationally at men's track and 4th among Big Ten teams:

If a sport is added to the Gophers budget, what should it be? Restore indoor track? Or something else?

Are current program dollars already spread too thin to add?

How often does it happen that the four highest ranked big ten men's track and field teams are the four western-most schools: Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Minnesota? (Last year Ohio State was the conference champion, and those other four schools game in 2nd through 5th.)

Iowa may have some injury issues and gambling investigation absences. Seems like a real tossup this weekend. Can Gophers dominate the 100, 200 and 4x1 head to head vs Iowa to earn the team title?

Gophers men track are in first place at the Big Ten Championship so far. That's great! Still more to go.
