Gophers' Max Brosmer grades as one of the 8 best passing quarterbacks in the country

From a grading perspective, Pro Football Focus views Brosmer as one of the best quarterbacks in the country. While his overall offensive grade ranks 16th nationally among quarterbacks that have taken at least 20% of the snaps, his passing grade ranks tied eighth in the country with Vanderbilt darling Diego Pavia at 86.5.

The only quarterbacks ranked higher than Brosmer in passing grade are Ole Miss's Jaxon Dart (92.6), Indiana's Kurtis Rourke (92.3), Colorado's Shedeur Sanders (90.6), Miami's Cam Ward (90.4), Louisiana-Lafayette's Ben Woolridge (89.7), Louisville's Tyler Shough (88.3) and Mississippi State's Blake Shapen (86.8).

Brosmer, coincidentally, will face Rutgers on Saturday and it will be a revenge game for the Gophers and former Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis, who is completing 53.9% of his passes for 1,650 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions in his first season with the Scarlet Knights.

Lol good one. I’ve admitted he’s played a lot better. He’s ranked by most metrics in the top 1/2 to top 1/3 of the big ten.

In addition, AK's stats are in reality worse than they appear. Here's a look:



As you can see, 6 of his 9 TDs came against Akron & Howard. Then he has 3 TDs in the following 6 games. Can you imagine what our record would be if we had to deal with this mess. I'm just glad PJ didn't try to stick it out with him after last year.

I am sure he believed playing would help him grow as a player, but what he really needed was a year of being injury free and practicing with the right developmental coach. I actually think AK could have really benefited from sitting on the bench and watching Brosmer this year. But I know in 2024 things like that are unlikely to happen.

In general every QB benefits from multiple years on the bench as they adjust to each level. Part of the reason the Packers have had the success they have had at QB is that they have given their new QBs time to develop before throwing them to the wolves.

Unfortunately with the new trend in the college games having multiple quality QB options on a roster is going to be much harder to come by as guys want to jump ship and play right away as opposed to earning their spot and waiting their turn.

Yeah, too many other variables in football. Baseball is a bit of a different story. It is a team game but there is a lot of individual to it as well which is why that sport has completely jumped the shark with all of the ridiculous stats now. I'm a big baseball fan and I don't understand a big chunk of them.

Qbr is the weirdest IMO. No one knows the formula. And the rankings seem off.

It just all depends what they weight the most. Max will score well in completion percentage and INT.

In the media predictions thread there was a comment about Athan making 9 turnover worthy plays last week while Brosmer had 0. Got me thinking about how rarely he puts the ball up for grabs so that motivated me to do some digging on youtube to look at his 4 picks from this year to see how those throws looked.

Nevada - Long throw to the Endzone. Driver didn't do a great job fighting for the ball, allowed the DB to separate from him and make a nice pick in the EZ. Not a great throw from Max but Driver didn't really help him out either.

Iowa - first pick was a miscommunication between Taylor and Brosmer. Max threw the ball behind Taylor which led to the pick but didn't really look like Taylor expected a throw to be coming his way as well.

2nd pick vs. Iowa was on a deflection when our receiver was being absolutely mugged and dragged to the ground by an Iowa defender before the ball gets there leading to the deflection off the receivers hands that gets caught by the defense.

Michigan - DB makes a heck of a play to jump turn and catch the ball along the sideline while managing to get a foot in-bounds (barely) along the sideline. It was a heck of a play by their guy.

Big thing I noticed is that none of the picks were of the variety where the QB makes a horrible throw to a defender he didn't see. As long as he can continue making good decisions and taking care of the football we are going to be in a great position to win our remaining games.

Wasn't the Michigan pick where it seemed like his foot was probably out of bounds but the camera angles were so bad they couldn't overturn it?

It was super close. Toe was definitely in bounds......heel might have clipped the sideline but really hard to tell for sure. Still a heck of a play by their guy.

I don’t think so. He could’ve benefitted by moving down to a lower level of football to get his accuracy and confidence back.

Maybe should’ve gone MaC and then transferred back up if he had success. Hard to develop when the game is too fast for you
