Before you say something like that you might want to come see the area around Ford Field, Comerica Park and LCA Arena. It’s pretty nice actually and there is a pretty good foodie and bar scene now. When is the last time you actually visited?

I was looking at driving to Detroit, and from there up to my cabin in N. Wisconsin. But not sure I want to drive all the way through the UP in winter.

Roads are well kept in the winter, driven them many times. US-2 follows the Lake Michigan shoreline and doesn’t receive nearly the snow the north side of the UP does.

I've drifted more to "range that could mean neither." Downtown Detroit is more fun than downtown Minneapolis and it's not close.

Actually I have, make regular trips there and thru there for my son’s hockey. Like any big city it has really shitty areas. But the downtown sports facility areas and Grand Circus Park and the Riverfront Park is really nice. Their present mayor has done a really good job since they went thru Kwame Kilpatrck’s regime.
