Who did he bring in?
Who did he bring in?
This logic is insane. We sucked so who cares that we make a sucky hire? There were proven head coaches who are on a ton of P5 team radars who wanted the job and we hired someone who wouldn't even have gotten a mid major HC job.I try to have the mindset of not overreacting and letting people have a chance. Go get 'em coach!
I mean, can it get much worse? We were 13th seed out of 14 this year. People seem to think we are on the cusp of being a perennial sweet 16 team.
Good luck Coach Johnson!
I know that's how we ended up with Pitino. I guess, if true, This is just not that desirable of a job. I hope this Johnson fellow proves me wrong. How many coaches turned us down to get to this selection?
It's going to come out. This is going to be embarrassing.
Either we were turned down by double digits to get here.
Or worse, he was in our top 5?
I feel like Harry Potter after he finds out he has to die. I mean, F me!
Johnson was an assistant here for all of those top rated guys with the exception of Chet and Kendall Brown and all we got was Amir Coffey.Well, when year after year, lately (it seems) Minnesota produces the #1 recruit in the country, it's tough not to dream of seeing them in the maroon and gold.
True. But give me some evidence of his connection to any success on the floor.Being the head coach vs Richard Pitino’s assistant is a very different situation.
I was on the fence about my tickets as part of my group is bailing. This hire did not help at all and no I don't trust the choice.Amazing to see so many loyal "fans" jumping ship and giving up their tickets this quick.
Everyone demanded a change and now they don't trust the AD's choice?
Imagine that.
Okay. We needed to be excited. We’re not. And I LIKE Ben.Very surprising and letdown hire but I think people are overreacting a bit. Let's at least give him a few minutes and see who the assistants are.
The difference is and maybe Minnesota will surprise me but doubtful, Juwan Howard got Michigan to pony up to bring in a very successful head coach for him to lean on as his assistant, Phil Martelli. This is like hiring Juwan Howard. Terrible hire
‘We are excited about the future. Ben brings a lot of knowledge and energy to the gym everyday.’What a HUGE letdown. Can’t wait to hear what Coyle has to say about the hire.
Yes one of the top NBA assistants who was a shoe in for an NBA HC job in the next few years + a known NBA legend is very similar to an assistant coach with zero name recognition, zero pedigree, and a key part of a program that has been going down hill since he arrived (Xavier). This is like hiring Juwan Howard. Terrible hire
Exactly. It has to be about money. This makes no sense.
By this logic did he also have a hand in bringing the guys who were terrible into this program as well? Or is that all on Conroy?
Oturu and coffeyDisagree. I don’t see any evidence at all that he was an effective local recruiter. I was all in on his hire as an assistant for that reason and it never materialized.
Brewster was not a good hire on paper. No experience and made us the laughing stock of the country. On paper this is a terrible hire.I'll just throw this in here... on paper, that Brewster hire wasn't a bad hire. That dude could (and still can, for that matter) recruit his ass off. Problem was, he couldn't figure out how to hire the right assistant coaches to make it work.
If what people are throwing around about the AAU stuff... if it proves out that Ben is the new coach... maybe it could be a good hire. He's still gonna need the right assistants, though.
The U is broke. Donor base is pathetic. Can't even shrink the ice size at Mariucci.Exactly.
Will we even pay him $1M?
Are we that broke?
Two out of the last three years they had top 30 recruiting classes at Xavier. Can you give some evidence that he is a top notch recruiter? I don’t see it here or at Xavier.
I like Ben. I think Coyle has done him disservice. He’s not ready for this level.
He got Jarvis before he was ineligible, Kalscheur, Coffey, and Oturu. Murphy not local.Disagree. I don’t see any evidence at all that he was an effective local recruiter. I was all in on his hire as an assistant for that reason and it never materialized.
How do you know he’s a lazy recruiter? This really odd narrative keeps being pushed by the media especially locally and makes zero sense. It's a quality people will blindly believe to support the hire even though it's baseless. What part about him is a good recruiter? He has been a below average lazy recruiter his entire career.
Except Juwan Howard was a great basketball player and a Michigan Legend! This is like hiring Juwan Howard. Terrible hire
Wooo top 30 lol can't wait for the Gophers to be hovering at 25-30th best class every yearTwo out of the last three years they had top 30 recruiting classes at Xavier.
Two in five (four) years? That doesn’t scream effective to me.Oturu and coffey
