Interesting that Hawaii & Wisc are 27-28 and they play each other this week

It is amazing how good those guys are. You watch the game at the stadium and they're on everyone.... insane.

They will score this week. Pretty sure they will be pissed and want to head into conference play motivated.

imagine if we had the running game going well and eating up more clock.

these guys are awesome. 51% so far this year vs 57% last year vs 61% two years ago

Discussion: Does the Jerry Kill formula have ceiling? Is the philosophy sustainable? Jerry says it's all about the win. His philosophy is to win games being as conservative on offense as possible. Last year that was give it to Cobb and watch him gain yards after contact time after time. Then throw it to Maxx when the defense really stacks things up. Every year our bread and butter is running the football. This year so far we can't. So we were forced to pass because we are trying to win the game. Typically we do as little as we have to do on offense to win, especially in the second half.
So here is my question: Will this work long term? This year we can figure our season out and be 8 and 5 for the third year in a row. That would be great! But the style is already getting booed. Will our style of play as it becomes more well known, and more fans become bored with it and more players experience it, be inviting enough to be able to recruit more offensively talented players than we have? As a result Is 8 and 5 the ceiling? We all agree the defense is very, very effective. It's a question...a discussion...a request for thoughts versus darts...

Yes. This has been my warning all along.

Recruiting seems to be improving. Just need to find a decent quarterback. Unfortunately that's the position they haven't recruited well, but they have in the past (Harnisch, Lynch).

Our points per game last year was actually higher than Missouri and LSU for a couple examples. Not great, but sufficient. If we can keep a solid defense and even improve the offense just a little bit i don't see any reason we can't hit 9 or 10 wins. A fortuitous schedule would help too. We haven't exactly had easy schedules the last couple of years.

Good defense has no ceiling. Good offense does. Simple.

That is an absolutely ridiculous statement. Based on nothing.

Good defense and good offense both have ceilings in a team game.

Your statement shows no thought process and shows a lack of fundamental knowledge about sports.

If your opponent doesn't score, you will win.

If you score a lot of points, you still have a 50-50 chance to lose. Use your brain before the keyboard.

You do realize your logic eats itself considering it is also impossible to win if you don't score?

Possibly the worst use of the "use your brain before you type" line I have ever seen.

Flawed argument that eats itself followed by
"Use your brain"

What's most impressive to me is for how often these guys are on the field, they continue to be dominant. Time and time again, the offense does them no favors, yet they repeatedly bail this team out. Love our defense, man.

It's a ceiling of Michigan state under Dantonio. Right now we are struggling on offense and dominant on D. MSU circa 2012 looks like a fair comparison. As recruiting improves things get better and better. Style only matters to fans, recruits can always be told they are the missing piece to a great team.
