If this coaching staff did anything before they are all shown the door it is try to plug in any person at any position that can help the team. As we don't know who your source is, it's a classic "a little birdie told me" story. We don't even know what they really said, we only have your interpretation of your unnamed source, your interpretation could very well be colored by your own views. In any case, it would be very surprising if on any team, you couldn't find someone who isn't grumbling about the coaches.
