But aren't there always players on the scout team that usually don't play at all? If we're desperate, couldn't they fill in?

My thoughts exactly.

Whither Andy Brinkhaus? Jake Glickstein? Brandon Haney? Brooks Michel? Zach Mottla?

Are all of these guys really hurt? And if not, we would rather have a TE backing up the OL than play any of them?

I can't believe Andy Brinkhaus is still under scholarship/ on the team.

Or maybe it's that the players on the scout team don't go with the team on the road. If we're still competitive with Illinois, it will matter, but if we are getting blown out, then just go ahead and let the benchwarmers play.

I'm ready to throw my 195 pounds into the fray. It's going to be "good night nurse" for Clay Nurse when one of the other Gopher linemen throws me at him!

My connection on the O-line pretty much stated that Tim Davis is a big incompetent asshole who really did not spend anytime developing these guys since they were not his recruits (and told some of them that). What he did was to push some of these guys aside to better showcase his guys for next year. However he forgot he had a car salesmen boss and now he will get fired as well and will leave the team in shambles. There will be some guys with little experence on the line for next year. Davis during garbage time games never rotated anyone else in and only had the starters out there. Wouldn't you think during the OSU game he would of put some guys in since we had no chance to win and give them some playing time?

The O-line guys just want the season to end and are excited for a fresh start for next year. I feel really bad for the seniors who have to deal with this team. It sounds like these guys are happy their injured. This whole thing is such a mess. What Davis did was tell you Gopher fans FU and good luck next year.

Oh no, not a bunch of pissed of walk-ons.

It was reported during fall camp that Brinkhaus was no longer on the team. I believe they just left him on the roster just because he is still on scholarship. Haney is a transfer from SCSU. I bleieve he is sitting out this year under transfer rules. Michel has been out for months with an injury.

Is this right?

Eggen, Epping, Gjere, Lenkiewicz, and Ragoo are the 5 freshmen linemen red shirting?

Carufel, Alford, Olson, Michel are hurt

Brinkhaus is not on the team

Haney is a transfer

Wills, Burris, Orton, Blunders, Wynn are the five playing?

Glickstein and Mottla are ???

Is that right?

LOL

Light years.

I won't be surprised if Maturi can't attract a top candidate.

Brewster left Minnesota with nothing but scorched earth behind him. Brewster should be ashamed of himself.

How did the boosters, alumni, former players and administration staff not look at this program and realize sooner that this was an absolute mess!

Logic?

Your logic for that comment in the offensive linemen thread is?

Would it be the five under classmen who have started on the offensive line?

Would it be the five red shirted freshmen in waiting?

Would it the prominent offensive line recruits for this recruiting class currently in place?

Root for South Dakota if you can't see all the good things that are in place for someone who can coach.

Root for South Dakota? What would make you think I want to do that?

See all the good things that are in place..... Let me know what those things are because a terrible secondary, Da'Jon McKnight being the lone somewhat bright spot on offense (I don't include Gray because we have no idea what he will be doing next year) and players getting in trouble are not impressing me. I posted my comment in this thread because I didn't think it deserved its own.

BTW I can see it now. Whoever our new coach is, once he hits a rough patch it will be "Look what he inherited from Brewster." and you know what, they will be right.

For arguments sake...let's say we do get a good coach...ok? If we do and if he can coach... we have talent , athletes in place to be coached. The new coach needs to piece in some junior college guys at some spots. What if the new guy hits a home run and we get a stud freshman running back or some other dynamic offensive weapon to go with what we already have offensively?

How many defensive stars graduate? Beal is supposed to be a big time defensive addition. We lose most games by less than two touchdowns. That is close enough that coaching can overcome the deficit, at least once in awhile. Besides the five offensive linemen we have several other freshmen being red shirted. Edwards is one.

Brewster went to two bowls. It's not like we are working on a total lifetime disaster.

We have Big Ten Network money that was not there until recently.
We have a brand new stadium.
We have a working relationship with MN HS football coaches.
There are a lot of things in place that were not there with Glen Mason.
We are not that far away if we get the right coach.

We just don't have hardly any coaches presently, but in my opinion we do have athletes and things are better now than they were five years ago.

We will win three non conference games. If we can cobble three Big Ten wins together we are in a bad bowl again next year and off and running.

I just really do not believe things are as dire as you painted them.

I'm not trying to abrasive, but are you telling me that both Jeff Horton and Tim Brewster are the only reason we cannot win football games right now? The fact that the talent level is down has nothing to do with it? Coaching is important, but don't give the HC that much credit. I don't believe the talent is there at the moment and that is the fault of the entire coaching staff.

I believe it can change.

Also, what exactly is in place here that was not under Glen Mason? I get the new stadium and I have read that Brewster has done a better job both recruiting MN and establishing relationships with HC coaches. Other than that, what is in place?

Also, Mason did a majority of the initial work to get the stadium excitement going. The plans were already in place when Brewster stepped in, so you can't give him credit for that.

This could not be further from the truth, I have gotten a chance to get to know Tim Davis and he is not at all a big incompetent asshole as you say he is. He loves Minnesota and wanted desperately to be a part of the team that turns this thing around. He is a great role model for young men like the Gophers Offensive linemen and is not intentionally sabotaging his seniors seasons (You're an idiot sir for even thinking a college coach at a major university would ever stoop to that) The fact that he has coached the line both at Alabama (where he laid the foundation for a National championship team and in the NFL leads me to believe that while he is not an incompetent coach, you might be an incompetent poster. I award you zero points and may God have mercy on your soul.

Is your outlook just as bleak now? No players? No nothing? I'm telling you we are not that far away despite just two victories. M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A MINNESOTA MINNESOTA
Yeah Gophers!!!

Settle Down.

Actually, 60's Guy got it right. The starters on Saturday were...

LT: Wynn
LG: Bunders
C: Burris
RG: Orton
RT: Wills

Orton got hurt DURING the game and an injured Dom Alford took his place. Alford was originally ruled out for the game, but made the trip just in case and was forced into action.

This is a really strange argument to make and it is essentially covered in another thread. But it is insane to compare what the U was left with post-Mason with what the U will be left with post-Brewster, it's not even close.

I am not a huge Brewster supporter, but his cupboard was as bare as any BCS program that I have ever seen. True freshman like Ralph Spry, Tray Herndon, Theret, Curtis Thomas, Ryan Collado.

We have more depth and talent returning in 2011 than 2007 at every single position. It's not close. The only people who would make the same cupboard being bare argument in 2011 as they did post-Mason don't have any concept of the depth on our roster.

The secondary is actually in ranked in the middle of the BigTen from passing yards per game. I know this is in part due to the poor run defense, but Illinois didn't carve up that pass defense on Saturday when they needed to.

Think? How many people think before they write on this board? My statment was better than
" A little Birdie told me" Anyway a lot of the guys think Davis is a A hole and won't be missed. Unless of course he was in your living room and recruited your kid then you might be concerned if he leaves or should I say when he leaves.
