Gophers had a sports psychologist come talk to them over the weekend.

Might need a hypnotist as well to forget about the past few weeks.

It's like Yogi said: "90 percent of the game is half mental."

I don't recall, did the sports psych have any affect last time?

@gophersnow: #Gophers saying their licensed sports psychologist Dr. Justin Anderson talked to basketball team and not Aberman. Wish Tubby just said that.

Go Gophers!!

I heard the psychologist made use of anatomically-correct dolls, having each player recreate Tubby's offense on a scaled down court (elevated floor).

Very traumatic reenactments!

...and if that didn't get 'em thinking: "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is." ~YB

Reporter: "Is Bobby Meacham your shortstop of the future?"
Yogi: "He is for now."

Well, Yogi was taught by the master: "never make predictions, especially about the future." ~ Casey

As we were wrapping up the game, my buddy "IAM4Goldy" said to me "Some may say this was a big night for Tubby, but this was an even bigger night for the sports psychologist!"

Go Gophers!!

Let's be real here, a psych may have been exactly what this team needed - their problems are not athletic in nature - they have plenty of that. The problems are mental - guys forgetting how to dribble, pass, shoot, make free throws, choking under pressure, making bad decisions, and worst of all - seeming to lose faith in the coaching system (under which they succeeded well earlier in the season). The players often seemed to just stop trying; when the other team hit a few buckets in a row they'd lose their toughness, start jacking up desperation shots, and then quit on D.

The Gophers' problems this season have all been mental. IF they've turned the corner and get back to the team they were before this mental block - and certainly a win like this can do much to turn that corner - there's no reason to think they can't become a top-15 level team again and take a good shot at a couple of deep tournament runs.
