Mooney: Why It Works

Living in the same town as Teague and Ellis did while they were at VCU, no doubt that the Gophers admin have a relationship with Mooney and know his reputation and ability.

Mooney took Richmond to the Sweet 16 in 2010-2011 including a 29-8 record.

Mooney: Why It Doesn't Work

After the Sweet 16 run a few years back, Mooney has failed to get Richmond back to the NCAA Tournament and is 15-17 in conference play during those two years.

Teague would have to do a hard sell on the media and fans if they bring Mooney to the press conference. It will be met with skepticism and fair or not, it will feel like a Monson hire.

100% no. This hire must be about exciting the fan base as much as hiring the right basketball guy. I don't think this guy matches on either account. Especially considering Richmond's record lately.

I thought same thing when I saw the highlights, that he was probably turning off an AD or two.

Not a realistic hire. 1) He wouldn't wow the Minneosta fan base and 2)Hes not leaving Richmond. He turned down 2.3 million dollars a year from Georgia Tech a couple of years ago because he totally loves the University of Richmond. Like I said however it'd be a bad hire as you'd lose the press conference.

I think his point was that Jerry Kill wasn't a home run hire either and more than a few people were skeptical of the hire.
