Depends on the year, but I was definitely hoping for ND this year. That seemed like a decent possibility. Virginia presently would be good, but they were terrible when we were going against them 5+ years ago. I just want a team that is relevant. Wake Forest is not. Florida State (every year we've played them) is not. Virigina Tech is not. That pretty much sums up all of our match ups over the years.

Florida State -- 5 games
Virginia -- 4 games
Virginia Tech -- 1 game
Miami -- 1 game
Clemson -- 1 game
Maryland -- 1 game
Georgia Tech -- 1 game
Wake Forest -- 1 game
 


B1G is going to need us to win this road game to have a chance to win the challenge.

There are never too many road winners in this series, and on paper this year I'd say us and MSU have the best shot at winning our road games. The other 5 will be tough. Then you've got Purdue, Northwestern and Penn State all playing at home and thus potential losses. I could easily see another tie or the B1G losing this year.

A quick eye-ball test and I'd say Big Ten wins 8-6. Syracuse/Michigan, Duke/Wisconsin, and Virginia/Maryland the pivotal games.

I'll be at the Duke 'Sconnie game, Dad's a big Sconnie fan, brother a big Duke fan and I HATE them both!
 


ND would have been preferable. But out of the NC State, Clemson, WF, Miami, FSU set, this is OK. Certainly better than playing VT or FSU for the 99th time.
 

I mean i guess this gives another shot at a winnable road game. otherwise, ick.

You're thinking of Virginia. The 2011 Big Ten/ACC Challenge game is the only time we've played Virginia Tech in our program's history. NC State might have been kinda cool because we haven't played them in over 50 years, and never in the Challenge.

Also, outside of Florida State and Virginia, whom we have played 5 and 4 times respectively, Wake Forest will be the only team we have played more than once in the Challenge.
 

Positive: This is a very winnable game than can help add to our win-total for the resume. (We know the committee doesn't value a tough schedule as much as wins)

Negative: Year after year, we get really $hitty matchups. This is yet another one!

No arrogance. But I want a matchup I can genuinely be excited about. 8 or 9 other teams would've done it for me!
 



It's funny, Wake Forest used to be one of the better programs in the ACC, and matching up with them in the Challenge would have been formidable in many of the seasons of the ACC-B1G Challenge. They have taken a turn for the worse in recent years for sure. Amazing how they missed only 3 NCAA tournaments between 1991 and 2005, and even were ranked #1 in the country in 2009, but now are an also-ran in the ACC. The luster came off awful fast thanks in large part to Bzdelik.

Well, they have a new young blood coach, so I think the matchup is interesting. Just like the NIT Championship game, a new young blood coach versus a Hall of Fame coach. And the NIT run was a hell of a lot more fun than losing out in Dayton, like Iowa did.

I like this match up, wake will return four starters, new coach, like I said earlier should have a buzz around their program, I also like that we get to play an actual ACC school for once

There's nothing wrong with wanting a more interesting matchup, especially considering we never really schedule very tough opponents at home.

You know Doc, I think the problem is that you post essentially the same thing in every single thread. The common theme is that nobody should ever speculate about anything and nobody ever truly knows anything. There is absolutely no problem with having or sharing that opinion, but I'm sure you understand that it gets a bit old to read it over and over and over again in every thread.

Trust me, everyone here knows your opinion. No need to beat people over the head with it and act holier than thou.

I might disagree with others' opinions, but I never biitch about them giving one. You regulating conversations is different than giving an opinion. You're the only person I've ever seen complain about people speculating or giving an opinion. It's amazing that you haven't figured out that message boards largely exist for that reason. I used to think you were just incredibly stubborn and angry with the world, but now I think you're just too dumb to figure out the irony in all your posts.

Wake Forest works for me. Winston-Salem is an easy day's drive from where I live, and its a beautiful drive. I don't get that many opportunities to see my beloved Gophers live. If you need something more than the game to tempt you into making the trip, Old Salem is well worth the trip. Its a very well preserved colonial era village.
