Gophers at Reliant - Tailgate, Atmosphere, Game, etc. Reactions

As the game went on and more of the Tech fans in section 111 got drunk, they got out of hand. There was a group of toolbags that got kicked out of the section and sent to 110 after trying to start a fight with an old lady.

I'm fairly confident that better than half of Gopher Hole thought I was being absolutely ridiculous when I was describing Tech fans in my multi-page hate thread. Now that you've experienced them firsthand, maybe you'll realize that I was going easy on them.

;)

The things you said ahead of time had to be true, because no one could have thought up all of those things by himself.

TexasAggie11: Great to meet you, your vivacious wife, GopherTexas, etc. You folks had a great set-up there and it was fun to socialize with fellow Gopher fans. Best of luck with your job interview in South Dakota and finishing your doctoral studies!

I think next year the perfect bowl game matchup would be Texas Tech vs. Iowa (if they even qualify for a Bowl game next year). It would be comical seeing their fan bases interact with each other (fornicate in the men's room and urinate in the streets?).

HAHAHAHAHA, +1! That is too funny!

Tech fans make a "gun" out of their thumb and forefinger and point it at the opposing fans to start the 4th quarter and whenever they score. In other words they shoot people. They were throwing stuff on the field and generally being more and more obnoxious as the game went on. The Gophers, according to Teague had 1,300 registered Alumni in the Houston area. I would say between 5 and 6,000 Gopher fans in the stands. They sold 50,000 tickets with about 35,000 in the house. More than Michigan State had. The game? If they don't intercept the tipped pass we win in overtime.

Just arrived at a sports bar in Dallas to watch the Vikings game and ran into a TT fan. He said: "I was at the game Friday night and was really surprised to see so many Gopher fans at the game ... Because the Big 10 is SUCH a small conference!" REALLY???

Now that would be a True and Blue Toilet Bowl sponsored by Kohler.

Typical out of reality TT fan if you ask me.

Two of those TT toolbags were sitting in my row next to my nephew and would not sit down. They were blocking the view of some gopher family members. They finally realized they should move as it would be better for their health. The another TT toolbags to the row to my left opened his big mouth and was cursing up a storm about how it was a free country and they can stand if they want. He was all talk. He didn't even oblige my invitation to come over and see me. Later that same moron had his foot on the back of a little elderly ladies chair while she was sitting there. The young guy that was with her asked the tech toolbag to move his foot and he wouldn't. Another gopher fan got involved and let the tech toolbag know he should leave the area or it would not go well for him. The tech toolbag was never to be seen again. Haha

I met an Aggie at a BBQ place earlier in the day and he explained how much he hated tech. Now I know why.

Some Tech fans in the plaza were OK to talk to. You can tell they expected to pisspound us. One guy said "I hope we don't beat you too bad. I want to see a game." Actually met Doege's grandfather. He was a nice guy and hadn't mentioned who we us until about 10 minutes into talking.

Toto, we're not in the SEC anymore. Tailgating is officially open and there is nary a soul in the lot. The few Raiders with tents have already started their annoying RAIDER POWER chant, but quickly shut it down as it was really just three guys yelling at each other.

On the south side of the stadium is a food court with a generic country band playing. That's where we are posted up, waiting for some Gophers.

You guys get a pass on the tailgate because you came from afar. Tards are just apathetic. And, they brought the wind with them. :(

Image upload is a bit of a problem. If someone posts their email I can send pics as I take them for you to post.

I was pretty disappointed with the tailgate turnout as well. I didn't expect a ton of Gopher fans down there, but figured we could get a couple hundred in the lots. I think the problem was that most people flew down and didn't have their regular tailgate equipment along with. After a couple hours of tailgating with about no one but ourselves, we headed to the plaza for the Victory Walk and spent some time there.

How those write trash fans get away with throwing all those tortillas on the field is beyond me. What a pathetic display of sportmanship.

There's no such thing as a bad bowl trip, and Houston was no different. As Gopherocious said, tailgating is tough when you're flying in from out of town, but the "TexFest" on the plaza with $2.50 Bud Lights was good enough to pass the time before kickoff.

As for Reliant Stadium itself, very nice facility. Reminds me a lot of Xcel Energy Center, only there's a football field instead of a hockey rink. Most NFL stadiums are pretty cookie cutter, but Reliant is a great place to see a game. A far cry from it's ancient sister next door, the Astrodome, which is showing its age badly. I know there's a lot of history there, but it's time for that building to come down.

Aggie wasn't far off in his assessment of Tech fans. I don't remember them being so boorish at the Insight Bowl, but that's probably because most of them left once we went up 31 in the third quarter. The whole "guns up" thing is just ridiculous, but I had a good time doing it myself throughout the game, just so the especially drunk ones wouldn't come near me.

One of the highlights of the night was the local ESPN Radio affiliate doing its pregame show on the plaza, and one of the hosts absolutely shredded Tech on the air, ripping its academics compared to UT and A&M, and praising Tech hording the "dumb hot girls that have to go to school somewhere." Most Tech fans took it in stride for the schtick that it was, except for one guy and his girlfriend who became irate and got in the guy's face while they were still on the air. They doubled back for more when he continued taking shots at Tech. Good entertainment.

I'll try to upload some pictures and video from gameday if time permits.
