Gophers and Rose Bowl attendance

As a die hard Gopher fan and a season ticket holder I can say these other bowls like the Music City Bowl mean nothing to me. I would consider the Orange Bowl if the Gophers were invited otherwise the only bowl I would ever go to is the Rose Bowl.
It is also nice to have family near Pasadena.
Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd probably go to the Cap One or Outback bowls too. Definitely would attend any BCS game (though having it be the Sugar if Rose isn't available would be preferable). I just don't have the money to justify a trip to any lower level bowl game since every Gopher home game is a road trip for me.

I think the attendance at the first Rose Bowl in 50+ years would easily be greater than 40,000. It would come at the conclusion of a season where the attention on the team would be building all year and Minnesotans love a winner. The real question is how many of those people would go back again the next year!;)

Exactly. Which is why folks tossing out attendance from this season as a predictor for a Rose Bowl trip is so laughable.

My only concern is that I won't be able to get tickets with all the bandwagon hoppers that will inevitably come on board. Hopefully the fact that we've had at least 4 tickets since 1983 will put us near the top of some list. We will have no problem bringing 35-40-45,000 fans. I am literally sick thinking about this and can't wait for the day.

With a ticket allotment of 35K you should have no problem getting at least 2 seats given your priority IMO. Now it just needs to happen. :)

Based on Wisconsin this year and 1994, I have no problem predicting that 1) you would bring 40K; and 2) a lot of them would be people you don't see in TCF. It is that second group of people you have to worry about - they don't appreciate the wonder of the RB, act like they are entitled to something, and don't appreciate the game for what it is - a football game. Some of these "event" participants can turn a true fan's stomach. Interestingly, the Frozen Four doesn't seem to attract the same type of event-goers, one of the reasons why I go to it each year to watch good hockey.

And Formo, keep repeating that "ghost town" mantra and you may come to believe it. As I must repeatedly remind my Gopher buddies, CR attendance was very good, despite mediocre teams, until the arrival of the disaster known as Don Morton in the late 1980s. The veer combined with teams that were poorly coached/conditioned did not make for entertaining football.

1980 71,360
1981 71,640
1982 71,060
1983 69,787
1984 74,681
1985 71,613
1986 68,052
1987 59,256
1988 49,297
1989 41,734
1990 51,027

We go to one away game per year. I tried to float the idea of adding the USC game next year to combine it with an extended weekend to bring our kids to Disney, or whatever. My wife shot that down due to the timing with school, kid activities, sports, etc. So, the prospect of any bowl would at least involve a discussion. For me personally, I would have to break it down into tiers:

1. So-so bowls like the Insight... not likely
2. Good non BCS bowl like the Capital One... Very possible
3. BCS Bowl such as Orange, Sugar, Fiesta... likely
4. Rose Bowl or National Championship game... FOR SURE

It seems like folly to type the words "National Championship game" or even "Rose Bowl" given what the Gophers have accomplished in my lifetime. But, I only need to look at Stanford to realize that anything is possible.
