44-21 final ... some good, some bad, and definitely a lot of room for improvement. Let's use the tape (which I hope to hell is better than the AggieVision tape) and work on things that need to be worked on.

I think we played good, but Nelson has a lot of room for improvement

Great hit Williams gave to the guy near the 5 yard line!

Exactly. Nelson & our pass offense will dictate our success in the B1G. It needs to get better. I am more worried about the WRs than Nelson. Other than that we looked better this week... against a really bad team.

If I had to sum up, it would go something like this:

The good: the running game, both offensively and defensively, was very good tonight. The offensive and defensive lines did their job.

The bad: the passing game, both offensively and defensively, wasn't good at all. Nelson still isn't a good passer and the defensive backfield doesn't cover well.

Still a lot of work to do.

We won, we're 2-0, get home safely, watch film and get ready for the next game. This one is behind us now.

As we move on to tougher teams I hope we use Maxx Williams more in the passing game. Our WR's dropped some balls tonight and that position is by far the biggest concern for me. Nelson looked fine passing the ball for the most part, and he's a faster runner than expected. Our running game will be a force to be reckoned with but we have to keep teams honest with our passing game.

Defensively we did a good job. Again, I think we played a little soft in coverage but I think the coaching staff wanted to keep BBC and Wells off the field for the most part so I'm confident we'll be fine in the secondary if all of our studs are healthy. Our run D was good except for a few QB read-options.

Special teams = A+. Kill is right when he says the kicking game can win you a few games each year.

I feel so empty already...what am I going to do to fill that void of no AggieVision for the rest of the season?

Nelson hasn't shown himself to be a good passer. Engel made a great catch when he was 15 yards open. Every other qb I watched today hit those guys in stride or underthrew a little. That should have been a TD. I was trying to decide today who I thought was a better passer, Phil Nelson or Adam Weber. I decided on Phil Nelson.

Defense played great until NMSU realized they could throw on us all night long. Won't take long for other teams to start the game that way. We played better than last week and we have to win 4 of our final 10 games to be bowl eligible with an almost guaranteed win next week. That's kind of sad to think about.

Was glad to see Jones make a play or two, he looks more athletic than any receiver we have. Special Teams were great tonight, field goals were solid. Defense housed another TO. All in all, a good night. We won, and we'll win next week.

We could start a thread and figure out what channel their Throw Down with UTEP next week will be on...

Nice maybe we can get a shoot out from the AggieVision crew like Shooters did tonight...sounds like a dive

Boy, maybe it was the #AggieVision, but I thought Engel could've easily stayed on his feet on that throw and taken it into the endzone.

Most points scored in consecutive games since 2005 (56 vs Colorado State and 46 vs. Florida Atlantic).

LMAO...he!! yeah, that's what I'm talking about! This must be done. Getting mentioned on every AggieVision broadcast the rest of the year is the goal, people.

Maybe it was. I found AggieVision was better when I stood right next to the tv and watched versus the couch. It's been a few years since I watched a game with such crappy graphics, that I couldn't read what down it was...

Nelson will be a good passer, but only if they let him throw the bleeping thing.

Let the kid freaking play.

Engel should have stayed on his feet. That was a good pass.

Nelson threw the ball OK tonight. He had ok numbers and a few drops. Our receivers are a much bigger concern than Nelson.

Ahhhh, see I watched the entire game from the couch. Maybe we all shouldn't be evaluating a game where it's never a guarantee that what we saw actually happened.

Posted as another thread, but thought I would move here.

Engle and Fruechte seemed to play a lot less tonight and cannot get any separation. Jones will have to get coached up quickly and the need Habison back soon.

The LB's take way too many bad steps and get themselves blocked. That will need to be corrected.

Unfortunately that might be the theme all year as predicted by most.

Our tackling is good when in position and Nelson is running better fakes with every snap.

Engel and Freuchte are fine when running untouched, i.e. the play action deep pass to Engel down near the goal line. You're right though, I don't think we have a WR on the roster who can consistently get themselves open on a critical down against good coverage. That will be a problem once we play against better opponents.

Harbison may prove to be our only hope in this regard, or maybe Jones figures things out really quickly and makes the adjustment to WR. Unfortunately the WR position is looking as bad as I and others had feared they would heading into the season.

This is tough on the development of a young QB.

Spoofin said it best. This offense is going to need to improve, and Nelson's ability to make plays with his arm is a large part of that. He's proven he can run and has been durable thus far, but eventually he'll have to pull some of those read options back and sling a quick slant or out route. Without more passing we'll be too predictable and vanilla come the conference season.

Defense has made some good plays but needs to be more consistent overall.

Special teams played really well.

2-0.

As we have seen from the past two seasons, Nelson will not survive the entire year running 12-15 times a game and never sliding. If he's being roughed up a bit by NMST, imagine him getting hit by Michigan and Wisconsin.

a win is a win, but wow what a downer of a game. Playing the 123rd ranked team in the country, no TV coverage and just seemed like a game that didn't mean anything.

I'd rather play a team like North Carolina on ESPN, and see where we stand. Win or Lose. Seemed like we were a D2 team tonight.

You could subscribe to Aggie Vision for a year on there website. You want the link? :)

Gophers have the worst receiving corps in the BCS. Sad but true. Ugh.
