Gophers 5th in total defense nationally

Good stat. I prefer scoring defense. Gophs are a very good #11. Unfortunately they are #90 in scoring offense. Still a 10 point difference to the good though, so I'm more confident that they can win the next three games.

When you are 116th in total offense, it’s tough to come come back from being down two scores. This year’s team has, recently, been very good at making second-half adjustments and coming back from halftime deficits. Before the Michigan game, however, we were horse bleep at second half adjustments. Now, if we could only find a way to play good offense in the first half .., All three of our next games are winnable, but Maryland and Illinois will be tough …

I can't tell if we're good at making second half adjustments ... of if we're good at just finally taking 2 quarters to get going ...

Understand the point differential stat. We don’t score that much but our opponents usual score meaningfully less.

But Maryland and Illinois both have highly productive offenses. Might tax or find exploitable weaknesses our D. Offense not clicking and getting behind early has been the Achilles Heel of PJ coached Gopher teams. If your offense lacks explosive play potential, and has only a few possessions to close a 10+ point deficit, bad things usually happen. So, I personally think our offense will need to be a little more explosive, not just efficient, to beat Maryland and Illinois … unless, of course, our defense wins the turnover battle by a substantial number. Then the pressure is off.

Good Point. It does seem like the team takes time to get things going.
That has been a feature of poor run blocking early in games. We are a balanced offensive team and need both run and pass clicking to move down the field.

It doesn’t feel like we’re fifth in the country, but maybe I’m still having flashbacks of Iowa gashing us on the ground the entire second half.
