Gophers 2025 Movement Roster Thread - Transfers, Bowl Opt-Outs, Etc.

Agreed, but I think Collins can't have another year like this one. Some of the issues I wouldn't put on him and I don't think you hire someone like him and pull the plug after a year unless it's catastrophic. He needs to address the cornerback and interior dline issues. The DB have to be able to play zone for his scheme to fully work. If he can't teach that than the plug needs to be pulled now but if he can than he needs to get the right personal in here. Danny did a great job as the safeties coach, Fleck let him take the next step and now he needs to show he can do it

Agreed, we would go zone and the DBs looked ... uh stationary / unsure.

This was 2nd worst post Rob Smith defense PJ has had. The only one slightly worse was 2 years ago in Rossi's final year when they went 5-7. I threw out the Covid year.
Still middle of the road B1G ... if we're going to panic it should be offense. ... go look at those team stats.

109 on the roster online currently. 26 walked for senior day. 31 commits as of right now. If we bring in around 20 transfers like last year we probably need around 25 current players to go.
If players can’t transfer in spring it will be interesting to see how many move in January. Stuck wherever you go for a full year.

Collins isn’t getting fired
If you’re going to pull the trigger after one year of being average then you don’t make the hire in the first place

He is raw
He’ll get better (hopefully)

I think no movement of coaching staff

This is the big question. I agree if Fleck trusts them to improve there won’t be any changes.

To me, the offense is simply they can’t run.
I don’t think this scheme. I think that if they make an offensive coaching change it’s Ol coach

I don’t think they do it.

Defensively they simply don’t have the talent to do what they’re trying to do. They played simple zone against Wisconsin. If they had done that vs northwestern they probably win. He will learn

I’d like to see some scheme change on OL. Wouldn’t mind some more pulling and misdirection in running game.

We need to do something on O Line. Until this year, we've had pretty good O Lines, right? Put Gophers in the NFL. Now, it appears to be a weakness of ours. I hope this changes quickly.

The only other defenses that gave up more points per game were Maryland, Michigan St, Rutgers, Purdue and UCLA. They have a combined B1G record of 7-38.

The offense was bad but they had a FR QB, new OL, mostly new WRs, and were missing their star RB for most of the season. I think that had far more to do with their struggles than coaching.

The defense returned enough talent and experience to be far better than they were. They were always out of position and tackled poorly as a result, which is far more of a coaching issue.

Guys I would keep an eye on
QB Kallock and Witke(sp)?
RB Turner, Berry already left, Ford
WR Driver, Lanier, Nuke, pretty much anyone not named Coleman, Martino, Tracy or Smith
Oline, Williams, Tripp, Alvarez, Ball, Tafai, anyone not named Roy, Johnson, Beers, Carroll or Nelson
Dline. Lot of opportunity for younger guys there to step up, there will be portal adds as well, will see what happens there. Lot of young guys will find out what the pecking order was/is based on movement.
Linebacker. Gerlach and Cleveland, hopefully no one else
Corner. Bowden and Kelly got passed over by younger guys and multiple safeties converted to corner. Parrish was hurt most of the year, Seidl had some run on special teams. Don't think Madu got much of any run.
Safety Harden and Rainer seem to be the two at the bottom of the depth chart and we have three coming in.
Punter. McGrath and Richter, don't need four punters
Kicker. Jackson the only one with eligibility left.

Not wishing that any of these guys leave, these just seem like the guys who were buried on the depth chart, obviously if I didn't list someone that leaves it's because I don't want them to leave, so hope there's no surprises
Interesting and well-researched list. Here are my reactions.

(1) I don't believe Kollack will leave seeing he's burned his redshirt and probably wouldn't garner much interest because he didn't take a snap this year. That said, QBs want to play. He was well-scouted and well-regarded in high school so he could follow up on one of the offers he received then. He had a California offer out of high school and if their current QB decides to transfer up, that would be a logical landing spot. Agree on Wittke.

(2) Agree on the WRs. It's always difficult to tell with the Gophers because outside of Bateman and Johnson, they haven't been "WR U." But, like QBs wanting to play, WRs want the ball. Could see a couple of TEs head out.

(3) It's a bit of a puzzle to me that as bad as the OL played for a bulk of the year, Tafai and Bell never saw the field. Same with Williams. For the program Fleck wants to run, he needs to have a plug-and-play OL and not rely on the portal for one-year starters.

(4) I think there will be more DLs coming in through the portal than going out.

(5) Don't know about LBs. Karmo could be really good.

(6) I have no ideas at all on the DB situation. Some guys have been passed, but there is still a ton of eligibility for those guys. I always wonder if it's smart to transfer before you've played much or after you've had some experience.

Agree, which would give me serious pause at bringing him back if our DC position was to open up.

Good thoughts as far as Williams goes he tore his achilles last year and he's just never really bounced back from it
