I understand how it works. Point being, by the end of the year, they'll most likely be a quad 3 team, at best. Thus, making the loss look even worse than it does nowNo quantitative ranking index is perfect but all of them are better than a rating based on a person's casual observations. They are better because they are OBJECTIVE (all teams are subject to the same criteria) and they are based on THE ENTIRE BODY OF WORK. If USF is #49 now that's because they've earned it under the same criteria that is applied to all 360+ teams over all of their games.
