Gophers’ transfer class gets a failing grade

As far as kickoffs, pj seems to like low variance but worse average starting field position allowed with the kicking it for touchbacks. Personally don’t like the strategy but the kid is doing what he’s told to do so that’s fine
Almost every college kicker kicks touchbacks. Totally not worth trying to land something short and deal with a return.

That said, we need a better kicker for field goals. Hopefully we find one.

that's not true (it doesn't really matter to me either way) in the Big Ten

leader in touchback percentage is IUs kicker at about 90% amongst regular kickers. It's right around half to 2/3 are touchbacks from my rough math. Denaburg ended up 3rd in TB%. The average starting position (historically) is generally better if you don't kick it for a TB (random tidbits because they're fun; there were only 3 kick return TDs out of 127 returns). The data set is pretty tough to pull average starting field position and it's too early for me to try do the math

Weston was 3rd team All-B1G & has 3 years to play still. That's a hit in the portal. Try to enjoy it.

12/14 inside 40 & 31/31 on extra points is very good.
I get the frustration with Denaburg, he missed some very makeable kicks. I don't get the frustration some have with Weston.

Weston finished 2nd in the conference with 20 kicks inside the 20 and finished 3rd in # of 50+ yard punts. Says he has a strong leg but is also good at placing the ball. Not really sure what more people want out of their punter.

this may be more my memory in looking at it. you're spot on that i forgot his OSU game (he was probably our best player) and very solid against Oregon

probably some bleeding into my head from some of our prior more troublesome years. apologies to Tom and his awesome stache (and I mean that; thing is impeccable)
