Per Greder:

“I think it’s too early to say,” Medved told reporters postgame at the United Center in Chicago. “Right now … I don’t know. But let’s just give these guys a few days here and just kind of see where we’re at and see kind of what the opportunity is and see if it maybe makes sense for this group.”

Go Gophers!!

I suspect they will decline an NIT bid.

In general, I agree with those saying the season should be over but the Gophers may get a Crown invite yet. Indiana announced that it will not participate in a secondary postseason tournament.

No NIT for the Gophers, or any B1G teams for that matter

Only 3 Power 5 teams this year, Auburn, Oklahoma State and Cal. No B1G and no Big East. I think they pretty much won't accept a bid due to the agreement with The Crown.

We will 100% get an invite to the Crown because even in the 8 team format they invite top 2 remaining from Big Ten so we would have been one of those 2 no matter what Indiana decided to do after the top 9 got into the NCAA tournament.

Will be interesting to see if we play or not.

I believe it's based on Net Rankings, not seeding in the conference tournament. Indiana (41), Washington (57), USC (65) and Northwestern (78) are ahead of MN (79) in the NET.

It's not based on conference standings though. Last year they used a combined metric of a number of rating indexes. Although we would be #11 in the conference in standings that probably would not be the case for the combined metric. For example, we're #14 in the conference in NET and we're below both Washington and Northwestern in Pomeroy.

Makes sense.....why base it on conference records against the same teams.....much better to use some BS computer metric of some kind to determine which teams are actually better..... :)

Oh well, guess we will find out tomorrow night when they announce the field.

Conference schedules are imbalanced. We lost to USC and Washington. Relying on Conference tiebreakers etc. is just as arbitrary.

I get what you are saying.....however in this case there are no tiebreakers involved in our 11th place finish in the conference.

Guess we will see what happens tomorrow. I think we accept the invite if we get one....I get the feeling these guys would want to play.

It could be Washington and MN. I suspect the Fighting Mussie's might decline and we could get in over Northwestern if other metrics are factored in besides the NET.

When do the announce the participants for The Crown?
After the lawyers for the conferences remind the discouraged teams that they are contractually obliged to play. As I recall, the play was pretty good last year.

I know they exceeded some peoples expectations, but it seems odd waiting on a potential postseason berth with a losing record overall and hardly any healthy players.

I don't see it as all that different as accepting a bowl bid because some players got better grades than other schools and having to beg a guy who left the program to come back because there's no QBs left on the roster.

I have no idea what the criteria are, but MN's only metric in their favor is the conference standings. The efficiency metrics like Torvik/kempom/NET have them as the 4th best or worse of the non-NCAA teams, and the results-based metric of Wins Above Bubble is also not in the Gophs' favor - those losses to MD, PSU, and Rutgers killed their WAB.

WAB was extremely predictive for at-larges getting into the NCAAs this year.

Intuitively, I have to think that they would be ahead of Northwestern. Maybe not USC though.
