GopherLady STrib blog: Is the Gopher Basketball fan base too old?

Did you attend games during Monson's last two years? Obviously not. While the Barn is not near the Clem years, its 100% better than Monson's last years. It was half full! As a season ticket holder throught the Monson years, you cannot even compare the barn during his last years and now. We have a lot of room to improve, but its not even close. Also, my comments were about PR for God's sake. So the fact we didn't get better attendance in PR is because of Tubby's police blotter team, or what reason? Its because a generation of fans that should now have disposable income witnessed a team that made the tourney 1 year out of 7. Pretty sure the students now will be much more attached to the Gophers when they graduate and beyond.

Yes, I did.

Your idea of blaming Monson for the state of affairs now is ridiculous. Tubby has been in place for nearly 4 full seasons.

ANY problems with the team, attendance, etc etc is fully on Tubby and his team.

BTW - Tubby has won exactly the same amount tournament games as Monson thus far. And Tubby's teams have not performed well at all. Pathetic offenses, just like Monson.

Tubby is a top flight coach, being paid top flight $$. The expectations for Tubby are light. Let's give him a few more years to win a couple NCAA games....

447 posts of the same propaganda. We get it. Your expectations are amazing and Tubby sucks.

I have to say, I watched a lot of the games on TV since this topic exploded (again) and as far as I can tell, students stand up and non-students don't.

I agree with this 100%, Since this topic raised its ugly head for the umpteenth time I have paid special attention to the crowds form non Gopher games on TV.

At Ohio State the students stand right behind the benches and the TV cameras show how zany they are. When they panned back everyone else was sitting just like in the Barn.

It’s the same at every other venue I viewed on TV including West Virginia.

The students were the only rowdy (in a good way) fans in the arenas.

Our student section is no better or no worse than any other student section in the country. Our non student fans are every bit as active as 95% of the rest of the country.

Some on this board have suggested that our non student fans don't compare with Kansas or MSU or Duke fans. That is likely the case but then neither does the rest of the 300 plus division 1 fan bases.

As for the recent grads that want special pricing on season tickets because they are poor...isn't that called Socialism. Take out a loan and get season tickets just like everyone else does.

Propaganda? Amazing expectations? Just facts and reality, GV.

Protecting Tubby has become an art form, instead of expecting wins after 4 years.

And oh yeah, blaming MONSON!!!

I was waiting to watch a few other venues before joining the discussion also-- there is a lot of sitting and watching going on all over the place. The tv cameras love the crazy, screamers but if you watch behind the coaches and in all the backgrounds other than the student section most of the people are sitting until the game action/excitement dictates that they stand and cheer or clap. And if you can catch a crowd shot of Iowa or Penn State most of the people look just like chair backs. I added a second set of seats this year diagonally across from the student section and it is definitely quieter than my originals in section 108 next to the students, but it still seemed loud for the Purdue game, not so loud for the Iowa game.
At Michigan last week they showed their new football coach standing for the school song and then sitting down immediately after, and he was courtside. And everyone else sat back down also.

What, are you one of the 11 kids Danny Boy's wife squirted out in his 7 years here?

My point exactly - focus on everything but Tubby.

No.

Just a Gopher fan waiting for Tubby to win. Danny Boy has won as many NCAA games as Tubby in MN.
