Kelly Terry earns Gophers' fifth WCHA weekly honor of the season

Senior center Kelly Terry (Whitby, Ont.) is the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Gophers with seven points on three goals and four assists in Minnesota's series sweep over Minnesota State last weekend.

Terry finished with weekend with three goals on eight shots and a +4 rating. Her points included a hat trick and three points on the power play (1g-2a). She won 20 of 37 face-offs in the series. Terry’s seven points was a career series-best.

Terry picked up two assists in Minnesota’s 4-1 win on Friday. She was one of three Gophers with multiple points, assisting the first goal of the game at 15:56 of the first period and the final goal of the game on the power-play midway through the third period. Terry registered two shots, won 12 face-offs and was +1 for the game.

On Saturday, Terry figured into five of the Gophers’ goals in the 7-0 shutout victory. She recorded her second career hat trick and added two assists for a career game-high five points.

Terry scored Minnesota’s second goal of the game on the power-play with 25 seconds remaining in the second period. She then factored into all four third-period goals, assisting Milica McMillen’s power-play goal at 5:21. Terry scored her second of the game at 17:14 of the third and completed her hat trick just 92 seconds later. In between her second and third goals, she assisted Baylee Gillanders’ tally at 17:31 of the period. Terry finished the game with three goals on six shots and was +3.

Terry is now on a three-game point streak. She is tied for third in the WCHA with 15 points (7g-8a) in 10 games and is tied for second in the league with seven goals.

This week's honor marks the second WCHA weekly award of Terry's career. As a freshman in 2010-11, Terry was named WCHA Rookie of the Week after a four-point performance against Bemidji State on Dec. 7, 2010.

Terry and the Gophers (10-0-0, 8-0-0 WCHA) travel to St. Cloud State (1-6-3, 1-5-2-1 WCHA) for their third road series in the last four weeks this weekend. Puck drop is set for 3:07 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
