The junior defenseman had two points in Minnesota's sweep of BSU
Junior defenseman Rachel Ramsey (Chanhassen, Minn.) was named this week's WCHA Defensive Player of the Week after recording two points on one goal and one assist in Minnesota's sweep of Bemidji State last weekend.
Ramsey and the Gophers remained perfect on the season, posting 4-0 and 4-3 victories over the Beavers on the road to improve to 8-0-0. In addition to recording two points, Ramsey led Minnesota's defensemen with nine shots, recorded a +1 rating and blocked one BSU shot in the series.
Unafraid to step up into the Gophers’ offense, Ramsey carried the puck end-to-end multiple times in the series against the Beavers. She recorded her third goal of the season to put Minnesota up 2-0 at 6:58 of the second period in Friday’s 4-0 win. She also picked up an assist on Kate Schipper’s power-play goal, which gave Minnesota a 3-0 lead. Ramsey was on the ice for three of Minnesota’s four goals on Friday. She added three shots in Saturday’s 4-3 win.
Ramsey’s goal moved her into ninth place all-time among Gopher defensemen with 16 career goals. She is one point and one assist shy of 10th all-time among Gopher defensemen with 60 career points and 44 career assists as well. Ramsey is tied for 15th in the country among defensemen with 0.75 points per game.
Minnesota faces Minnesota State in a home-and-home series this weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. Friday at Ridder Arena and 3:07 p.m. Saturday at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn.
