Gopher volleyball 2024

Right now the situation at Minnesota has really hurt us when trying to land top recruits. Let's face it...many players in the portal want to be on a winning high ranked program roster that can vie for a NCAA Championship and I don't blame them.

Regular recruiting has been quite good. They haven't been landing the transfers that those on the board would like. Do we even know if the coaching staff is prioritizing transfers? They might be willing to go through a rebuilding year to get the roster evened out.

Transfers are always a chemistry risk in any case, regardless of when they arrive. There's generally a reason they're transferring...even if we've all somehow decided it's normal to go to college at 3 schools now.

Recruiting transfers is "regular" recruiting now. At some programs, it's more important than high school players ....

High school recruiting has been quite good.

I absolutely do not have time anymore to argue over wording with anonymous people on the internet.

I read that Morris indeed transferred to Oregon. Also, I am reading lots of Junior college news about players transferring to D1, but I have not read anything about anyone transferring to play here at Minnesota.

One of my Gopher loyalty perks was a meet and great with the coach before one of the matches. Coach stated his preference for 4 year players. What that means, who knows. 2025 season things should start to even out for us. I am excited for the 24 and 25 recruits to show us where coach will take this program. I do feel that in this day and age of recruiting you will need to mix in a transfer or two to get to the final four

Aloweye to return for 5th year? I have no idea if she will or not. However, she is still here, there is only 1 middle. The staff should be working overtime to get her to return.

Do you have inside information on this because this seems far fetched. Aloweye was honored on senior night as not returning so I would be very surprised if she came back.

Someone has mentioned we're looking internationally so we'll see what happens.

No inside information. Just a practical musing.

She's gone. Already announced she's leaving.

And no surprise. She doesn't want to just be a blocking specialist on an upper-middle Big Ten team that has no chance win the conf or go far in the tourny, with her last year of volleyball.

I'll give you this much, for someone who really doesn't know what another person is thinking (or know much at all for that matter), you sure are confident.

Who knew being honored at senior night was an official binding departure? Or that people can't change their minds? Thanks for the info!

Sorry if it sounded harsh, but can you name other seniors who were honored on senior night and then months later decided they wanted to come back? Even more specifically - a senior transfer who was only here for one season? I guess I haven't heard of any so to me it does seem like a stretch.

But sure, it could be a possibility. That would be most welcome considering our middle situation. 🤷‍♀️

Edited to add: not sure why you're attacking me by stating that "I don't know much at all". Seems a bit uncalled for.

Of course it's not a stretch. It's simple common sense.

Why did it even come up as a topic of conversation, I'm curious?

There is no more chance of her "coming back" to the team in fall 2024 than there is Landfair. They're both only technically still in school here because they need to graduate with their undergrad degrees in order to be graduate transfers.

(Although for Landfair, she doesn't have to grad transfer to be immediately eligible ... she has never used her free transfer. My wild guess is she doesn't want to go compete in spring ball at the new school. I have wild guess why, but no point saying it here. We've moved onwards and upwards here at Minnesota without her.)

Hopefully fans of Gopher volleyball, especially those claiming to have followed the team for decades, will be able to stick to actual logical arguments and sharing of news in this thread, instead of having to resort to childish personal insults!

Go Gophers!

Right. Let’s all be like Mpls and focus on badmouthing the players and staff. Like real fans.

I never had a feud with anyone, so of course that works for me!

How many more posts in this thread need to be wasted by little children exercising their personal grudges??

Grow up.

Or don’t post your crap in this thread. Start anew thread or better yet open a DM.

Go Gophers!

Someone on VT posted a social media post that shows Awoleye is continuing to practice with the Gophers this spring before she transfers out.

That is a class act decision to allow her to do that, as well as her to help us out. No hard feelings at all.

Maybe if she develops a connection with Stella, who knows?

But that’s a big risk that KCook won’t keep starting Schaff. He seems like a stubborn mule about trying to force a wrong decision.

Also glad you know who is not in the gym this spring. Good riddance

Awoleye is not in the portal, she's graduating.

Someone on VT posted reference to this so I went onto the Illinois Volleyball website under their News. Their Final Spring Volleyball match will be vs our Gophers in Waterloo, WI, on April 20.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois volleyball announced its spring slate on Monday afternoon. The Fighting Illini will play in four contests, including a match at Huff Hall.

The Illini open the spring schedule with a match against DePaul on March 8. First serve from Huff Hall is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT. Admission is free for all fans in attendance.

The Orange and Blue battle Marquette at a neutral site in Rockford, Ill., on April 6 at 1 p.m. A week later, the team heads to Louisville, Ky., for the KIVA Showcase at the KIVA Sports Complex. Match times will be announced at a later date.

The spring season finale will take place on April 20, when the team meets Big Ten foe Minnesota. The match is set for 1 p.m. and will take place in Waterloo, Wis. Setter Brooke Mosher was a graduate of Waterloo High School in 2021.

Illinois volleyball went 16-14 overall and posted an 11-9 mark in Big Ten play in 2023.

It is always exciting to receive more news on the upcoming scheduling of matches whether it is for Gopher Spring or Fall Volleyball. However, it would be nice for some positive recruiting news to follow-up with this latest information. I know it would help me feel a lot better about the future of this program.

And a trip to Italy(?) in May(?) or something like that?

Nice little carrot for anyone who wants to join the team late!
