Gopher Volleyball 2022 Season

3rd set was interesting.

Could definitely clean some stuff up before facing Texas, but overall a solid performance.

The Badgers took down TCU 11, 18, 16. Wisconsin outblocked the Horned Frogs 14 to 1.

And Nebraska romped too with two sweeps.

"Huskers’ dominating 25-15, 25-16, 25-9 win against Texas A&M Corpus Christi."

And

"Huskers taking down Tulsa 25-15, 25-12, 25-13 for a 2-0 opening day."

Well neither of those opponents were ranked. Minnesota took down the #16 team Baylor.

TCU also is unranked.

NCAA declares UW volleyball transfer Shanel Bramschreiber ineligible for first half of season

MADISON – One day before the season opener, the NCAA handed the Wisconsin volleyball team its first loss of the season.

College sports' governing body announced Thursday that senior Shanel Bramschreiber, a graduate transfer from Baylor, will not be eligible to play until the second half of the season. UW's compliance office will confirm the first match she can compete, but assuming the NCAA views half the season as half of a team’s scheduled matches, then the target date for her season debut is Oct. 14 at Iowa. [Which means she would miss the game at Minnesota but be available for the Minnesota game at Madison].

"Bramschreiber is one of four transfers signed by the Badgers during the offseason. The penalty comes as a result of a meeting she had with an agent to look into her options for a professional career before she committed to UW.

A libero/defensive specialist, Bramschreiber would have been in the hunt for playing time on a team that graduated its starting libero from last season. She comes to Madison with an accomplished résumé, having spent the past two seasons as the starting libero at Baylor. She was the Big 12 libero of the year in 2020."

Taylor Landfair (outside) - Named a Top-21 Player Returning for 2022 by Michella Chester of NCAA.com.

"Landfair is another player that is not a returning All-American from last season. But, she was also hurt for a large chunk of 2021, hence lower stats. She came out on fire in her freshman spring 2020-2021 season, and only played nine matches of her sophomore season before she was sidelined. The thing about Landfair as a freshman, was that she looked absolutely nothing like a freshman. Her composure was unmatched out on the court, and she has the talent and skills to go along with it. Now, she will play again as more of a veteran, and will likely play a large role on the team after the departure of Stephanie Samedy. I think Landfair will be one of the top players in 2022." - Michella Chester

In the season opener, Landfair had 15 kills, 2 blocks, 6 digs, and 2 assists.

I have stated a few times that Hugh starts his starters and they remain that for the season outside of illness and/or injury. Only question after last night is RS. However, it would not surprise me that Hugh goes back to Crowl.

Mc Wu is in a boot along with Davis and I hear Gros has a wrapped leg. There is always the possibility Mc Wu and Gros could have been starting. A few games into the season and starting Middles and RS should be established for good.

I will be very happy to see them Live tonight. Watched a little of Ohio State/Texas. Ohio State looked pretty good. Also caught some of Wisconsin/TCU. Wisky has a lot of new players and are a work in progress just like us.

Sheffield's ALWAYS TRANSFERRING IN TOP LIBEROS backfired I see. Right now Wisky's back court could probably use her. Also, no Hilley for a setter makes a difference.

Well, Hugh and other top Head Coaches like to develop their Liberos, while Sheffield likes to transfer those Liberos into the Wisconsin program....apparently, Sheffield's MO continues this season.

Any predictions before tonight's match-up?

Since Wisconsin is down 1-2 against Baylor, I'll predict Minnesota overtakes Wisconsin in the power ranking after Minnesota beats TCU tonight.

Landfair with 10 kills in 22 attempts with 3 errors through two sets. She's hitting from everywhere as the Gophers are up 2-0.
